In regards to the oil changes, Porsche writes in a flyer from '89:
"High performance with low maintenance--oil changes every 15,000 miles, other routing maintenance every 30,000 miles*
*Oil level should be checked regularly. Oil consumption may vary depending on use."
John: I occasionally send things to Germany, but most communication goes over email or phone. Postage for a simple letter from the US to Germany is 80 cents (about $1.50 from Germany to the US). Gifts are OK, but if it goes over a certain level the recipient might have to pay duty. It happened to me only once, when I sent a computer gadget to my brother, and they caught it.

My 95 hits the 1 liter per 1000km or 1q to 600 miles almost perfectly. It does use more than my 90GT or my 89S4 but I'll live with it. It has used 3/4 qt in an afternoon during the Tri state SCCA finals. 2nd place.
I was visiting Devek and Marc showed me the major piston differences between the 5.4 and pre 5.4. Each 5.4 Forged piston has the same oil retaining valleys behind the bottom oil wiper ring but all of the earlier engines have pin hole sized drian holes. This allows the earlier engines to drain that captured oil back to the crankcase. On the 5.4 these valleys stay full for the next crankup and to keep oil lubricating the forged pistons.
