Broken swaybar bracket

Broken swaybar bracket
I was doing a visual inspection under MY89 just to discover that the bracket on the passenger side of the Devek Swaybar is broken. Will a stock bracket fit or do I need the Devek bracket? Pic available on request

Does your car have Devek brackets already or is it using stock? Welding can buy you some time if you drive easy but I wouldn't recommend it as a permanent fix. Swaybar mounting brackets are placed under a lot of stress in hard cornering situations. Prior to getting the 928, I played around with a Miata that had extra-large sway bars. I've seen cases with them where the actual swaybar mounts themselves would crack if larger bars were used. That's not to say it will happen with the 928, it's just an example of how much stress is at the mounting points whether it's the brackets or the actual mounts.
If it has stock brackets, I'd try the Devek brackets. If it has Devek brackets, then I'd consider trying the stock ones but you'll probably need to save the existing bushings (unless the existing bushings helped cause this issue.)

usually, always, the bracket is fine, its the mount that it attaches to that fails. I have a lot of experience with the stock sub frame components. i just replaced one that was torn off by hitting a birm (strattle).
normally, during racing, the swaybar mount brackets will fail just at the bottom bolt.

On my '81, the 'Energy Suspension' poly bushing brackets did the same thing.
I just started driving my '81 again. I heard the crunching sound, and it took a minute to remember I haven't fixed those yet!

oh, dont worry, you just have metal fatigue. those brackes are PLENTY strong. just get some newer used ones or a set of new ones. the failure mode of the swaybar is really on the chassis and subframe.
trust me, i run a full stiff, devek swaybar on some of the most demanding handling race tracks in the world without issue with the brackets.
are the later brackets different? i dont remember exactly, but those brackets look a little different.

The PO of my car had installed a devek bar and the exact same thing happened after I owned the car.
This happens so frequently with this product that devek may be negligent in not advising purchasers of their sway bar that the mount points must be reinforced prior to installing their product.
I ditched the devek bar, had the mount welded and went back to a stock swaybar.

There were different diameters?
I think the main issue is racing the 928 with the bar, or if the bar is set at full stiff, there could be a concern with the mounts.
by the way Randy, where is the bar now? did you sell it.
maybe chuck will buy it before our enduro at laguna.

I did a straight swap with Mark Anderson for an OEM bar plus replacement hard point and attachment hardware.
I would have sent devek the bill for the labor to repair it had I been the one that purchased and installed their product.

Gee, since half the one we repair are for stock bars, maybe we should charge Porsche.....??
Funny, rate is rate is rate.....customer picks rate based on driving style, needs, wants, etc. Hopefully, we supply the means to tune your 928 to your driving style!
BTW, are you a moderator or motivator?
Keep up the good work!
