Post Door lock woes

The keyhole on the driver's side door of my '82 no longer works. This morning I had no problem using it to unlock the car, but once I arrived at work, the key wouldn't go all the way into the lock, jaming with about another half-centimeter left to go. Its been a little rough going past that point before, but minor jiggling cleared it.

Has anyone else expirianced this? It seems kinda like there's some debris clogging it, or perhapse some dust, so I'm considering putting some silicone-based lube in to see if I can free it up, but I'm a little concerned that it may do more harm than good. Thoughts?

Is your car equipped with the factory alarm? Those locks have 2 tumbler sections. try a graphite lock lube.

I lubed it up. Its still rough, and requires much wiggling, but it works now.

And yes, my car has a factory alarm.

Jessa,

Does sound like the lock is physically wearing out. They're not inexpensive (~350 new/~125 used), but you can change the lock without taking the door apart. (So, if you are mechanically inclined, you can save the labor.)

You might want to call 928 Int'l, they probably have a used one in stock, and you can send them a key and they can rekey the lock to match the rest of your car.

HTH,

Greg
