Ernest,
I would guess the first thing to do would be to inspect the engine for visable external leaks. Maybe use the UV dye in the oil and inspect with a lamp.
It could still be related to internal oil burning from breather, rings, seals, etc. and blowing out under the car from exhaust leaks in the manifolds or exhust system.
All we are seing is the end result. Got to get to the source.
I hope Tarek gets after this problem, I'd like to hear the results.
FYI, it's a 86.5 and seems like a strong runner.

Generally oily smoke has a bluish color and oily smell, white can be water, raw fuel, will smell like fuel if it’s an auto the vacuum modulator can leak allowing fluid into the engine = white.
Greg, since you were the last car, what did it smell like. <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />

Steve,
Looked white, smelled like oil. We need Tarek on this thread. I'm fairly sure he IS replacing lost oil.
Early on, I had waived Eric and Tarek by, as they were pushing to catch up to the main group and I didn't want to impede their progress. Once I got behind Tarek, I quickly questioned my descision!. He was kind enough to yeild and let me by. The burnt oil smell was a bit harsh.

Thanks to Greg for the video and to all for taking interest in my white smoke problem. It seems that I blow this smoke at WOT and hard cornering and braking. (but not every time). I also get smoke in the cabin even thicker and it smells NASTY....there were times when I couldn't see the road anymore, and my best bet was to aim between Eric's tailights until smoke cleared...smells more like burning oil or coolant...yet not one drop of oil or coolant is missing 1400 miles later!!!! I've had many look at this for me, and so far I have best guesses only. It remains a mystery and I might have to start taking things apart for further diagnosis...this has been a very frustrating problem to track...my conclusion so far is fuel, as Scott Turnbul suspected, and I'm not sure how I can detect that when stopped. Although, in some instances, after extreme cornering and tossing the car around the twisties at WOT, smoke does rise from the firewall area, on the outside.
But what I definitely DO know is a problem, is a leaky oil pan gasket, which I'm replacing in the coming two weeks. I don't think it's related, but I could be wrong

forgot to add that the car IS a strong runner as Greg indicated. Many have indicated that it's one of the fastest 86.5 they've seen. Not a scientific statement, but worth considering.
And the mystery grows!
please help shedding light on it

Tarek,
Get a UV dye kit. It has different color dyes for fuel and oil. Add dye to fuel and oil, run the car hard, inspect with UV lamp included in kit.
Worth a shot.
(get meteormetallic-colored dye, I'll follow you and you can paint my hood!!!)

Oh God no! LOL
Heres the other quick clip i made. Glenn and I were coming back to the parade ground from a visit to the Boone Walmart for dry shoes and socks. This is the uphill climb on Rt-221 to Grandfather Mountain. It was drizzling pretty good and the roads were a little damp.
<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/blueshark/rt221toGFMTN.wmv" target="_blank">Window Media (3mb) Right Click and Save As - Rt-221 to GF MT</a>
I got lots more to edit over the next month or so. Next up - i'll put up some of Glenn bombing up the BRP in the pouring down rain. These cars are the S*&^ in the rain.
Aaron E. - I used the Divx Codec and Virtual Dub programs to make the orginal AVI clip. The first file above came to 35mb in AVI format. How do you get Virtual Dub to make a WMV file? 35MB is a little big for posting. I used the AVI in Pinncale Studio to make the WMV file. There has to be a better way. Please continue my education. BTW - the instructions you sent me workd perfectly. Thanks.

Tarek, first things first. Jack the car up and look for external oil leaks. Primary suspects would be the O-ring seal at the front of the cam housing where oil can drip down and back onto the exhaust manifold. This one is tough to spot so you need to get in there real tight. The other area is at the rear of the cam towers, where a leak also will drip onto the mainfold.
It takes very little oil on a hot manifold to make a lot of smoke.

Nice videos Greg
As for the oil leak, when my cam cover gasket blew at the track you would be amazed what a few drops of oil will do and it all exited out the back of the car like on the video.
Would be ok until you let off the throttle at high rpms then it would do a James Bond type smoke screen.
Scared the crap out of me till I found out what it was.

Cool stuff.
Is it just me or does anyone else notice that their car seems to run faster and smoother toward the end of a long, fast trip?
Looking forward to running with you guys again sometime.
