Default Fuel pump repair?

I have a pump that is "locked up" I guess you would say. It was the one that came with the car and sat for 3 years. It woked fine when parked and now it does nothing. Can you clean these?

If it's locked up, what do you have to lose? Give it a shot.

I thought someone recently dissected one... anyone remember who?

Re-crimping the case w/o leaks is a problem. Run it backwards briefly by reversing the power leads. If it doesn't "unlock", toss it.

IMO, fuel pumps are not good candidates for repair. They're always on as long as the car is running, and they are a doomsday part - you areen't going to go anywhere or do anything unless that one critical part works the way it's supposed to work. Because they are essential and have to be reliable under a wide range of conditions and use, I would only replace with a new one and wouldn't want to trust one that had failed for any internal reason.

However, if you're working on a restoration or have to get running due to time constraints or availability issues, I'd take a whack at a repair and put replacement at the top of the to-do list.
