Default Fighting back against "speed trap" towns.

We all need one of these camera and recording setups
http://obsusa.com/index.html

so we can do this in our next "traffic" stop.
Part 1: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...93977759&hl=en

Part 2: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...88630210310716

Sergeant Kenline works for the St. George, MO police department. It's one of the 99 tiny "speed trap villages" in St. Louis county. Seven hundred households with a median income $33,000.

Apparently too poor/small to have a city web page.
According to the news report, 28% of city revenue comes from TRAFFIC tickets. http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/19/1961.asp

A blogswarm is building.
Police Chief is Scott Uhrig. Mayor is hiding out.
9041 Southview Lane
St. George, MO 63123
City telephone number is (314) 631-1295.
Fax is (314) 631-2252

Welllll .... we all know speeding is dangerous. Drunk driving, on the other hand, can be made to go away.

I love small towns. Protect and Collect

"Driving drunk: $1,000 covers it in Waverly
Sunday,* September 9, 2007 3:42 AM
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
WAVERLY, Ohio -- For drunken-driving suspects facing three or more days in jail and lengthy license suspensions or restrictions, it's a great deal.
Nearly 100 of them have made $1,000 "donations" to the Waverly Police Department to make their troubles go away. ..."

Those are exactly the type of power hungry people who should have never been allowed to become a police officer, and give cops a bad name. I hope he is fired and barred from ever working in law enforcement again, and further, in his new job driving truck, I hope he gets pulled over often by cops just like him. That would be poetic justice.

Sadly that cop is not alone out there. Every Jurisdiction has them and they have gotten away with it for decades. Now at least we have some technology on our side to catch this trash in action. Don't get me wrong, I know a great many in law enforcement and most are upstanding in every way. Every basket has a bad apple with some a entire bushel. I hope they tale his pension as well if found guilty as this is what they really care about.

I believe in California it's unlawful to tape a police officer (or anyone else for that matter) without permission. Not sure what would happen, if you'd ask an officer like this... he'd probably decline to be taped.

Not true, if is does not intrude upon their personal business or considered stalking then it is legal to tape just about anyone. Anyone can tape a cop in California provided you are not interfering with his police work in any way and a cop cannot legally make you turn off the recorder or confiscate it. They can stop you and ask questions and demand ID which would be an inconvenience but keep the tape rolling. Of course most cops are just doing their job and giving them a hard time back makes for a more difficult situation.

I'm sorry Nicole, but that's not true. As long as you are in public, or in a private residence with the consent of the property owner, you can video anyone doing anything that is not clearly criminal behavior. If you video someone commiting a crime, and don't report it, you could be liable for prosecution as a conspirator after the fact, or several other statutes.

Yep, if this guy isn't fired, the city is going to be paying for a big fat judgement and the 20YO kid will just about own the town. Waaayyyyyyy too many Barneys in uniform, and not enough Andys. Instead of a dick he's got a badge and a gun. If the guy had asked me if I wanted to try him, I would have inivited him to a local gym where we could dance without all the hardware.

Well, if there is one trait that wil trigger my zealous rage, it is abuse of power founded in insecurity. This appears to be an example of such a case. I am reminded of the following statement by a certain NRA executive officer: " I love my country, but I fear my government." , which applies to this case. In fairness, however, and what most officers will probably state, is that I can only judge by the events depicted by the video; I don't know why the officer was so short fused or what the driver had been doing, though it appears that the driver had simply stopped to rest in a public parking area that was not restricted by time of day.

On its face, this cop needs a loooooong vacation at least. What is even more interesting is that we don't know how this all ended. That is omitted from the tape, unfortunately, and from the NMA article. Does this happen frequently? Surely it does. Yes, I also carry a tape recorder in my car and use it.

I have alot more to say about this but won't at this time. To tell you the truth, I am too troubled by it. I'll think about it tomorrow in fight school.

It's too bad that the video tape from the police car is "missing". It seems like that's not exactly too uncommon in situations where things don't exactly go the way the law says they should, and the tape would benefit the individual that the police are dealing with in it.

I thought about it today. This guy is a real *****, no doubt about that. He has issues that need attention. Sometimes people like this pick the wrong guy to intimidate, and the problem goes away. Is anyone old enough to recall a movie entitled "Electra Glide in Blue"?
