It won't improve performance in its own right, but it will help you know whether your MAF is working well, and how the throttle body is affecting mixture if at all. It may help you dial in the fpr. But really wouldn't be fully utilized unless you got a piggyback ore standalone engine management system of some sort.

In installed a x-pipe that had an extra O2 sensor opening on my 88 S4 auto. I bought a relatively inexpensive air fuel meter and hooked it up to a wide band Bosch O2 sensor that I had from a prev. project. Works great for tuning / diagnositcs of air / fuel mixture....

The WB O2 sensor needs the electronics behind it to be of any value. It won't feed your OEM Bosch ECU. It won't work properly with a A/F meter designed for a narrow band sensor. It is only one component of a total system, all of which need each other.

would the shark tuner for the 85 86 have a cost/benifet for a non boosted set up?

With the upcoming EZ-F version of the SharkTuner, there would be some performance benefits for tuning the LH and EZ-F on your car.

But for a stock car I would buy one of the pair of performance chips that are available.

The SharkTuner is really for use with modified engines.

John,

What about if he went with crossovers or another exhaust system mod? Would that be enough of a change from stock to benefit from the ST (over the performance chips)? He says he's got headers and a different throttle body, but doesn't say if he's got any other mods.

I would say an X pipe would be the minimum modification to justify a LH SharkTune up. Louie found that when he SharkTuned a standard 85/86 US 32v LH ECU the fuelling was very close to optimum (must more so than on an S4 etc)

It has been proven that the 85/86 can benefit from an EZ-F remap, and I think that must be where the performance improvement comes from with the available chips from 928SP.

I certainly found my '86 Euro 16v benefitted from a SharkTune of its EZ-F. I don't have a dyno, but my performance meter shows a consistant improvement in 30-90mph acceleration times after remapping. (10.2sec before, 9.7sec after)

Fairly soon I hope Louie will be able to gather some results of EZ-F SharkTuning on the US 85/86 32v cars, with dyno numbers.

I have no knowledge of the potential benefits of a larger throttle body" on the 85./86 cars..... only flow tests could reveal whether the throttle bodt was the "critical path" in the inlet system.

I think a RRFPR on a relatively stock car is not necessary, assuming the MAF is in calibration, and the injectors flowing corretly.

It's a very slippery slope... A few more mods and your journey to the dark side will be complete!
