AutoTrans - Hard Shift, Easy Fix.
Sometimes, things just go nice and easy.
When I bought my car, the transmission had the hardest shifts I'd ever seen. I'm talking tooth filling removing, whiplash making, possible pinch-collar repositioning (I'll have to check that someday soon) wheel-chirping upshifts.
The PO gave me a trans repair manual and a detailed verbal description of the shift cable and a NIB trans filter kit. The manual and kit are still on my shelf unopened. I never looked at the shift cable as the problem.
After reading many posts on hard shifts, I immediatly went to the vacuum line at the transmission modulator. Test guage showed no vacuum even though the line was connected at it's source at the "vacuum spliiter" at engine rear below the airbox. I chased an new line from the spliiter back to the modulator and verified that vacuum was present on the new line. Plugged it into modulator and went for the smoothest drive I have had in my short ownership of this car.
I have to say, that when something can be corrected simply and have such a dramatic effect on drivability, it is rewarding.
I have rigid line on order to replace my "temp line".
