Must have been "Mazda Day" - onramps
Morning - situated behind a Mazdaspeed3, sitting at the leading light to the onramp this morning. [Nice little car with ~270 turbo power in a 3klb package. Wouldn't mind having one, if I was in the market.] So the light turns and we get moving ahead at a slightly heavier than normal foot, but nothing eventful...rather long approach to a 90deg left and on to a nice gradual-sweeping right up the ramp. Approaching the left hander, I notice no brake lights from him and think 'cool, spirited merging'.
Out of the left and a puff of exhaust as he gets on it. Good thing I'm already in 2nd, so I roll on hard to keep pace...little lift through the right sweeper to not get too close (usually keep it nailed throughout)... up the straight, into 3rd and merge. As we enter, I move over 2 to go by a bit, then settle back down some. He gives a big smile and thumbs-up as he pulls up along side. Nice to exchange the sportsmanship.
Fast little car and seemed quite even until top-end where he seems to flatten out a bit. I'm sure that thing pulls out of the hole really well - doubt I'd catch him from a standing straight...then again, most new cars pull well from a stand still, hence the "always from a role" rule. Kinda surprised me he wasn't up to full-tilt in the right sweeper, although it's near the top of 2nd, so maybe he was. dunno. Seems like it'd be a fun car for a wagon commuter.
Lunch - entering typical onramp, right hand sweeper, behind a Mazdaspeed6...huh? Mazda day?? Begins accelerating...actually quite swiftly, so I roll to maintain distance. He moves 2, I move 3 to pass...SHE turns to me with a smile and a shrug-look as I go by. I return the 'thanks for playing' with a piece-sign as I move along.
Another fast Mazda, albeit about the same as the "3". I see it has roughly the same hp rating, but a little larger package. Likely the reason the "3" seemed a little quicker to accelerate. Anyway, kinda cool to see her enjoying the performance and having a good attitude about it.
Overall, two near same cars in a mere 5hr timespan...must have been Mazda day!
