That is very helpful guys. I dont' know what a thermo valve is, but that should be easy. I don't know what a WUR is either. (Remember, I've been driving a '55 chevy pickup for the last couple of decades. It's like an echo chamber in those engine compartments.
Wow. Randy, what an engine! I'm going to post that picture where I can look at it for inspiration. How on earth did you get that engine so beautiful? It must have stayed in your living room. Haha.

Randy,
Is that a thermistor on your radiator hose? Fan sensor?

Richard & Greg, I confirm my 79 is plumbed the same way. And yes, this is a vacuumed controlled valve which release stored tank vapours from the carbon storage cannister under certain operating conditions. Same conditions under which the EGR valve operates.
FYI, i just replaced all those small hoses with new silicon hose (correct colors) from Hose Techniques. Very good product.

I looked, and found the little hose was disconnected at the valve, and trailed off under the spider. Not a whole lot of help, but at least I fixed something while I was there.

Yes. I ended up pulling the airbox to check the hoses. And found a weak waterline that eventually started pouring fluid all over the engine. Better now than while driving around. And I broke something else that was half cracked... So all in all, I got familiar with the car. I also have more questions now. Like is there supposed to be a wide open vacuum leak going to the blowoff switching valve? I'd ordinarily remove all of this crap, but this is a classic car and deserves to be just the way it was when new. Sort of. Meanwhile, you guys have been a super help. And now it's back to my timing belt tensioning.

A quick check of the timing belt revealed an adjusting bolt that was almost falling out. The belt was flopping around. So I just tightened it to a sensable tension. I'm guessing it would pass the actual tension tool test, but won't know until the tool arrives. All in all a great day for this shark. It really helps having this forum to bounce off of.
Many thanks,

Be careful about tightening the belt without the tension gauge. I ran mine this way for a while figuring I could guess the tension pretty well and ended up with a broken cam. At the time it was not too hard to get one but I think they are getting rare.
