My favorite - and not necessarily on a ricer...take a $1500 car - put on $5000 worth of 21" wheels...you know - with the spinners that keep turning even after the car has stopped!!

That surely is good for an extra 5mph on the top end!!

Ok im going to stick up for the rice burners!Think about this for what it cost to buy and rebuild a 928 engine you can buy a used civic, import a jap spec motor and throw a turbo with NOS.And make most cars look silly in overall power.Handling is different.I mean listen i have a supercharged 84 928 and not impressed what so ever.Yes i might have the same amount of power as a raced out honda but the weight of my car hurts me compared to theres. As for there weed whacker exhaust it does sound like azz in most cases but they can also offer a few extra hp.

Cool

Yeah....the other day I looked out the front door and decided that HappyTruck, the '66 F100 that I use for airport car duty in Orlando needed some help. I think I'm going to "rice-it-out".

I was thinking about getting the vertical and horizontal fins from a surplus DC-9 and pop-riveting them into the bed. I'll purchase two huge "juice can" mufflers [each worth more than the truck itself~] and mount them, and then maybe I'll get some 24 inch chromed wheels. No wait- I'll paint the 24's in order to match the paint job.

I don't need any of the mandatory graphics or body kit- courtesy of Ford's bizarre styling and several cans of rustoleum, I'm already there~

It would be great to tell you that I'll modify the 16 valve engine with some chrome bits and headers...perhaps even a pair of hot cams and a chip. Not possible...the 4.0 liter straight six under Happy's hood doesn't have 16 valves or two cams...it has 12 things that make clicking noises and something way down in the block that purportedly spins around. It manages to run, and run decent...and actually doesn't burn much oil. It just leaks it on the ground.

Oh and it really does have tube headers and a chrome valve cover

I have had some thoughts of replacing that engine. I thought for a brief period about mounting a 928 engine...I mean, it would be a really cool touch, and very convenient: I would only need to keep one type of oil filter in the garage!

But the clincher for me just came from Lou's post. I'm not going to re-engine my soon-to-be-rice-though-currently-agricultural '66 F100 with a shark motor; I'm going to go for something FAST: an imported Jap-spec Honda 4 cylinder! Something like a hand-ported B18 or whatever, mount a huge turbocharger, a 125 shot nitrous kit...

Really, I might not want to do anything. It's pretty much rice already...

One thing you gotta consider too, is that it's the cheap cars that always ended up getting hot-rodded. Decades ago, it was the 10-year old domestics like Camaros and Mustangs. Now the best bang-for-the-buck in sub-$3000 cars appear to be these little Honduhs. And since these kids are living paycheck-to-paycheck, they'll just add a little of that paycheck to their cars each time. A wing here, a coffee can here, a side-skirt at a time. Of course they can't afford an entire paint job at once, to the body-parts will always be in primer...

Normy,

Now that's a truck! Something tells me it is used as a truck should be used.

Gotta respect a man that can hold his head up high while driving that beauty around!

BTW,

The guy that delivers our Indian takeout has a little Ford Fiesta (I think). He drives up a couple nights ago - and the drive is lit up purple under his car! The guy is beaming. Says he's saving for a paint job (couple hundred quid). I give him a big smile back and say the lights look great and wish him well as an extra if they make a F&F sequel. More power to him.

Man I think I stumbled on a support group not a list rant. I too had a Scirocco back in the day, but soon graduated to the ultimate Scirocco a Corrado. I finally sold my G60 after I bought my 928 because the wife would not let me keep 2 garage ornaments.

As for the "ricers" (I prefer the politically correct term "Zipper Heads") I have no problem with them. They are all car people and I haven't met one that I didn't like outside their car. Now their road manners are another thing, but when I was 16 I seem to remember being a little squirly on the road.

Just a quick story, my cousin was up from Carolina last year and he is about half my age and just got his first newish car (2000 Civic SI). He was so proud of it and did some more tasteful mods to it. Well he was giving me heck because I have a Volvo (850 t-5 R) wagon, so I said lets take it to the local drad strip and see how slow the wagon is against your Civic. Well lets say I turned a 14.8 and he turned less than that. After that he wanted to more about the Volvo than how to beat it. It is not the kids today don't know about other vehicles, but they just weren't old enough to appreciate them when they were new. They will learn just as we all did with a few years under their belts. Cut them some slack and help them out when you can by educating them not berating them.

Another VW-ricer here too. Bug convertible, 911 nose and whale tail from JC Whitney, bus engine with overbored heads and NOS. Was perfect for playing tricks on those "more fortunate" kids whose parents just bought them the new IROC-Z. My buddy did the same with a Lambroghini kit car we knocked up in the garage we worked at.

HOLY SMOKES Normy! Thats funny. (i'd drive it - )

Your truck reminds me of this late '90s -early '00s VW Golf GTI i keep seeing near my work that has all the body panels a different factory color. Looks like it came that way from VW. Looks like a loaf of Wonder Bread going down the road.
