Looking under my 928 at the alternator is appears that there is a fairly large tube/hose that is supposed to attach to it and travels up into the engine compartment. Can anyone tell me what it's function it. It is not attached and is shredded.
Thanks!

The tube attaches to the back of the alternator and is there to cool it. The other end of the hose goes up into the drivers side front wheel well. The temp sensor for the HVAC is is also in this hose in the wheel well. That's all there is to it, the other end doesn't connect to anything, it just sends cool air to the alternator. Very common to find it shredded.

The hose directs relatively clean dry air to the alternator otherwise without the rear shroud in place (like when someone mounts an Audi Bosche alternator) and the hose the alternator eats hot air from around the exhaust manifold which is not a good thing...

Jackson. We have a fun run every middle of the month and I am tired of being the only shark there. This weekend we're meeting in Jackson and going to Dyersburg/Reelfoot area for some good twisty roads. Do a search on the 911 forum for MTFR ( Middle Tenn Fun Run ) and you can see what you've been missing. This weekend looks like we're gonna have about 12 cars. Hope to meet you at one of the events soon.
