Along with all else, I have recently been plagued with some hard starting problems which didn't quite seem to fit the fuse/relay theories. I read and read threads, but didn't really get anywhere until someone mentioned the fuel pump check valve. So I went to 928 Specialists for a price (cheap at less than $20, but the installation, in my gravel driveway, seemed painful, at least) but, and this is the real purpose of this post, they showed a test for and possible temporary workaround of a failed check valve. Worth it to me, at least. And it has gotten my car started easily, after going through days, if not weeks of churning it and churning it, sometimes over a period of 45 minutes. This takes a couple of blips and she starts right up.
I can't get their links to work, so log onto 928 specialists, go to fuel system: delivery, go to fuel pump check valve and click on installation instructions. In a nutshell, let the car sit for awhile, bump the starter but don't let it turn over at all, repeat a couple of times and if the car starts, that's probably the check valve.
