I remember this happened to me a while ago. And whenever I had this problem my car wouldn't start. We determined that it was a problem with the alarm fuse.

They might be the same problems, or they might be completely different. That's the thing with these cars, you can never really know for sure what the source of the problem is.

Sounds like lock(s) are out of adjustment. The same thing will happen if door is open and locking is tried. To adjust I believe the door panels must be removed.

My PO had accidentally cut some of the brown live wires in the door. I connected most of them up right but swapped the lock ones by mistake. Exactly the same symptoms - I could lock the passenger door and both would lock (sometimes), lock the driver's door and they'd pop right up again.

There are two 400MA fuses behind the main fuse/relay board in black holders.
Find them and check them out.

I had this same problem and "fixed" it by loosening the allen bolt that sits under the rubber cap in the door jam (up by the lock). Once this bolt is loose, you can move the door lock in and out.....after playing with it for a bit, I stopped the lock from popping back up.

.....but now I can't engage the alarm from the drivers side. When I turn the key from the drivers side, only the drivers side locks - the passenger side doesn't move at all. I have to lock/unlock using the passenger side.

When you say "behind" does this mean removing the fuse panel to get to them?

No they hang behind the fuse panel. Look at the top of the panel in the middle anmd check out small black wires. They will pull up from behind the panel so you can check the inline fuses.
Radio Shack sells some 500MA fuses which I have used in the past.

Dan,
Sounds very much like the small fuses.
You may want to try Halfords for the fuses or your local electrical shop.
If you get stuck I can send some to you.
Best,
Roger

When I had my panel off to replace the door handle, I couldn't see anything to play with that would help the door locks....just a black wire running into the lock.

Let me know if you find something else.

I've got the same problem going on....i replaced the door handle when the inner mechanism broke, tried everything including the locks before buttoning it back up, put the door panel back on and the driver lock will not come down and stay....it cycles and i cant even lock it manually........took the panel off and it works.....panel back on and no workey.......obviously something is interferring with the lock mechanism but i cant for the life of me see anything in there.

x2.

Use a small mirror and flashlight to look behind the top edge of the fuse panel for the fuse holders.

The "stock" fuse matches to a Littelfuse T 400mA 218 (slowblow) (part #218.400)
http://www.littelfuse.com/cgi-bin/r....ION=QXInJLSB8t

When one of the fuses is bad, it will cause the door locks to cycle. A fuse doesn't have to be visibly burnt through in order to be bad, so check them with a multimeter, or just replace both of them anyway.

On mine I could lock the doors from the drivers side but the passenger's side resulted in this cycling you describe. Same with the interior lock or the central locking button. A broken wire in the door harness was the issue. The break occurred at right where the harness exits the through-door guide. I had to remove some of that black sheath to find the break.
