This thread is hilarious. Fat Bully, do they have that many rice rockets in South Africa? I feel for you, if so. Or you have been looking at http://www.beaterz.com trying to find out where old coffee cans go to die? "Oh ricerrrrrrrr boy, the pipes, the pipes are caaaaallinnnnng..."

Nicole is right-on (as usual). I think the ultimate example of this is what Sterling Gee is doing with his car. He stepped back and wondered what Porsche would do, given a few more years of 928 production evolution and set about creating it.

And side pipes? It's like finding out you have a wayward formerly-beautiful sister that has gone and pierced and tattoed herself. Still, I want to see 'em (shock value). Let's agree to keep a disposable box camera in our glove compartments so we can document these nauseating sights. The family photo album should include all the children. ;-)

I always laugh at ricers but I love 'em.

When I was a young punk me and my friends got hold of an old Chevy, cut the roof off with an agle-grinder, sprayed it pink, did the upholstery in leapard skin, chromed chain for a steering wheel, big sound, the worx. And of course it had side pipes! Ooooh boy, did that 454 gurgle and shoot long flames!

A trucker liked it so much he pulled us over and donated two imensely long atennas. We mounted them on the rear wings. They scraped the road on quick pull-offs...

We looked so cool cruising through town...

Those were the days. Billy Joel's Glass Houses, Police - the bed's too big without you, The Cars, Madness, AC/DC and Tom Cruise was a snot-nose who had a whorehouse and his dads 928 in the river...

Memories are made of this.

Wow, I didn't expect such a virulent response. Call me Chris from now on. I expect "rice" references from the VW boys. I always thought of referring to Japanese cars as "ricey" was racist. Would've expected Porsche guys to be above all this. Like you anything to fear from a Civic Si. For what it's worth, it looked very well done; the 928 was in sterling condition, with Cup RCs to boot. If anyone can help me in finding some concrete references to side exhaust, that'd be really appreciated. I've done a lot of research into the 928 already and I just want to understand what options I have before I sell my current POS and step into a 928.

Pierre, Stop it, you're killin me. The flicks are a hoot!
Greg, I thought 'I' had seen the worst!
Even the slide hammer screw holes -still open- and covered up with some 'skinned over' enamal paint applied with a 3" brush falls well short of the 'wagner spritz'.
I guess I have to go lookin' for that guy who went the extra mile ... you know...
Wrap five feet of 3/8's inch chain with some old fiberglass curtain matierial...dunk it into the bucket of, alleged, automotive paint and apply using the often critisized, and much maligned 'FLAIL Technique' viola!
Nichole, So, its thumbs down on my 4wd,
MONSTER SHARK project?
How about the my MUD SHARK concept car..... spark plate, 13" wheels, multi-colored flourescent, belly lights, that lovely, El Camino Mod from der Nederlands und, mit der
Cadillac Firemist Poly Bronze metallic paint job.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -das ist so stimm- . So, maybe there are a few bad eye's out there...
Granturismo, Trust me, I am NOT a PURIST. And I agree with some exceptions to Greg's "do it right" thread. BUT, IMO, this is just one step ahead of buying one of those chrome, surfer, gas pedals.
In the end it's your sHARk.
Chris, you can cover the damn thing with a nice thick coat of fake rubber vomit for all I care.... its just that a lot of folks realize that there are to few of these puppies in good to great shape as it is now...the market value of the sHARKs is low which is great for guys like me who have lusted after one from the debut of the 928 series on... when someone butches one it sells even cheaper, then it gets trashed, then its gone...period! When enough of the sHARk series perishes there will be few/no buyers for new/used/aftermarket parts and only the truly RICH will be able to afford even common maintenance them. Speaking for myself I hope I don't live to see the day that happens. And if I can influence someone not to do irreversible changes/ damage to a basically, healthy sHARk I will do so with no hard feelings to anyone.
BTW About that hood... to late. How are you runnig the cold air intake/delivery?
The exh. pipes might work for me if they were square tube but even then they would either sit to low on the chassis or interfere with cockpit entrance and egress.
PURE OPINION AND A LITTLE HUMOR

Greg, you're totally correct. I should have thought about that when posting. Excecution is everything. One thing I realized after I posted, was that I was thinking more of "side exit" than "side pipes". Not sure if big old honkin side pipes would do it for me, but the side exit types like I posted earlier would look pretty cool for a boulevard cruiser 928. As soon as I can get some pics of te hood, I will definitely post them. It really does flow well with the lines of the car. A fellow 928'er was giving me a hard time, calling me a redneck etc..., until he saw the hood. No he thinks it's pretty cool. It look great if you're focused on street performence rather than road race. Thanks for clarifying what I meant. (that's what my wife tells me. LOL)

Pattycakes, I did pick up a spare hood before I started this, for the exact reason you mentioned. I don't intend to do irreparable damage to the car. Every mod I've done is a few bolts away from putting her back to stock. As for the cold air intake, that was part of the reason for the cowl induction hood. I have a 4" pipe coming off the MAF with about a 45 degree bend upwards. The MAF end uses the stock airbox seal, while the other has a low profile K&N filter that protrudes through the hole in the hood into the cowl induction scoop. I have a rectangular flange just pior to the filter, with a seal on it to seal against the underside of the hood. This allows ONLY ambient air to flow into the intake. Not sure if it will help or not, but I plan to do before and after dyno tests on it. Just something to tinker with to keep me outta the bars.

Glad to see everyone has remained centered and in good humor! John (as usual) you are sick and wrong. Keep up the good work, I count on you for immoral support.

Granturismo, really nobody was trying to flame you. And if the pipes were well done, so be it. Hopefully you can tell we really are a nice bunch of folks, just a little too devoted to our chosen automotive excess. And that none of us has seen sidepipes on a 928 off the race track. Or at least, nobody's talkin'...

Chris, I figured you were on the same general track - everyone I have seen on this board seems to truly love their 928, and that's what really counts.

We all want our children to develop in their own special way, just as long as the way is NOT into Pauly Shore...

Can't wait to see those pics you promised. I'm thinking of copying a Strosek design I saw with recessed round intakes that line up with the airbox, eliminating the intake tubes.

I believe some time ago DEVEK had intakes directly above the airbox on the white car but they never marketed the concept due to fear of water getting into the system. Have you thought of that?

Maniac, I have been contemplating the water issue, and I don't think that this set-up would allow water to enter unless you were in a real heavy downpour. Any rate I plan to use this hood as a "fair" weather weekend type accessory, not full time daily driven stuff for sure. I still have to pick up 2 sets of pin on mounts, as I am planning to pin this hood on, not attach it to the hinges. The overhang at the windshield is enough that you could only open the hood about half way before hitting the windshield. Plus this will allow me to adjust only the factory hood at every swap, not both. I've picked out 4 good pin locations that will require me to fab a few bolt on offset mounts. This way I don't have to drill or alter the car at all. VERY important, as we've all discussed. Like I said, I'll have to run some dyno tests to see if it actually helps, but it's fun tinkering. Then will come the Nitrous Express 75 hp system with a progressive controller. This should put me in the same RWHP range as the SuperCharger crowd, but for about an eighth of the cost. I'm shooting for 400 at the wheels. We'll see!?!?!?
