que in the sound of a big spoon clanging against the sides of a big iron pot, simmering over a fire in John's back yard. A little mineral spirits, add a little kerosene, some stoddard solvent, lacquer thinner, rubbing alcohol, and some ethanol to make it all environmentally friendly. It doesn't dissolve a plastic spray bottle so it's OK to spray in there.... Ready for market!

I removed the MAF and swapped the screens on it around - the top one had a tear in it and there was debris between the screens. My airbox was missing one of the "supports" that left an empty bolt-hole on the maf-side of the intake - I've plugged that with an M6 bolt for now while Porsche ship me a replacement support.
I cleaned my MAF while I had it apart using the CO Contact Cleaner - it wasn't very dirty (PO had it replaced about 4 years ago), but did come up looking very shiny, and works fine.
Edit: links on alternatives

Note to aussies - the second link talks about someone finding MAF Cleaner on the shelf in Repco - Repco say they've never stocked it, and CRC say they've never sold it in australia, so not sure what the guy who got it at Repco is on about).

Hello Bert,
I don't sell general items like cleaners, there's enough electronics stuff to keep me more than busy.
Any cleaner like brake cleaner should do a good job of disolving excess oil and other crap from the wire.
Just do a test first on the plastic housing of the venturi that holds the wire and other sensors to make sure it is not affected.
Be careful with the wire - it's only 80 micron diameter :-)

To try and get this thread back on track, I bought some CRC MAF cleaner over the weekend (@PepBoys) and gave it a try.
Holy sh&t! This stuff really works wonders. The shark accelerates like hell. Smooth throughout the entire range.
Of all the things we try to do to get some more horses to show up, this was way too easy.
Thanks JohnK!

I just tried it this evening. Cold idle sounds about the same, maybe a bit higher. Warm idle is much smoother and higher. I'll have to readjust the idle screw saturday in the light. I didn't have a chance to get on the throttle just driving around the neighborhood, but it did seem a bit quicker to respond.

MAF cleaning
After reading over the old post I figured I would try it same way.Not unplugging and taking a chance of messing with the plug.I had the car to the 1/8mile maybe 4 or 5 runs this year and back about 6 or 7years ago.The car always ran inbetween 9.59 to 9.63 in the 1/8th mile.Just got back tonight after cleaning the MAF over the weekned.Car did feel quicker.Taking off from a standstill with auto rpm would go to about 2,000.Now it leaves around 2,300 and when it hits 2nd gear it feels stronger.
To really see the difference took it back to the drags made 7 runs tonight went a few rounds and 4 time trials. The best was 9.42 to worst of 9.49.Had a run of 9.42,9.43 back to back in different lanes.I could really feel the difference and the ET times proved that it did feel quicker it endd up being between .15 to .2 sceonds in the 1/8 mile which is about 1 1/2 to 2 car lengths. When I scan them in will put them on the 1/8mile thread.

If you can wait a few days for me to get back in town, I can ship you a case of the stuff if you want. Let me know.

ET after using CRC MAF cleaner
Car never went faster than a 9.58 in 1/8th mile and times were from 9.58 to 9.63Ran it earlier this year also was 9.59 to 9.62
Heres the 9.43 run overall .15 to .2 quicker in the 1/8th all stock no mods.
The top ET slip was same time of year August but was also 10years ago!The bottom one was from last night 8/26/2008
10 years later motor runs as good and better after the cleaning of the MAF with CRC.
