Default AC Compressor Vibrations

1993 Manual GTS

PO replaced the compressor some time in the past. Folks that installed it neglected to move the rear brace from the old to the new unit. The rear mounting was loose when I got the car, noticed the missing brace, installed it and had a heck of a time getting the rear mounting bolt to not back off from vibration. Well, now the front bolt un-tightens itself after I use the AC. Which brings us to...

Why should the AC compressor vibrate that much. I checked the belt tension several times. Seems fine. Could this compressor be failing internally?

Should I use lock-tite? It already has a split ring washer.

Opinions?

It shouldn't - pulley not installed correctly?

or worse - shaft bent... (as in it was dropped...)

Does not look like it's been dropped. I need to see if the shaft is bent. Hmmm...

I think I am going to evacuate the the system, drop the compressor and check it out more seriously.

Make sure your freeze switch isn't bypassed..maybe the compressor is temporarily seizing if this is the case. I believe this is what was wrong with mine..blew two clutches and finally a compressor and mounting bracket ....and my front tightening bolt was backing out all the time...really had to keep an eye on it...

No worries now..as none of that stuff is on my car anymore

later and good luck.

I swapped the freeze switch from another car I owned because I thought switch had failed.

I will check that one, too.
