Question Vacuum lines ???

Greetings,

I have a question for the group. Has anyone converted all or most of their vacuum lines and fittings to braided hoses and AN fittings? Seems like they would be pretty bullit proof. Feedback appreciated.

TIA

Joe,
That would be a lot of work (and $$) for vacuum lines. Not worth it from my view.
Just remember. Your existing ones lasted almost 20 years!

Hi Joe,

Yea, braided vacuum lines would be mucho expensive and not required.
Interestingly enough, I spent the morning replacing all accessible vacuum lines on my shark. I swapped out all of those hard plastic lines for soft silicone lines. I went with red and it looks really sharp. I used small pieces of the hard line to connect the silicone line to the 6 way splitter. Most of the other ends went directly onto their corresponding assemblies. I only had to use maybe 1 or 2 elbows.
The silicone line is extremely flexible and tight. I doubt I will have any problems for a long, long time. The big advantage with this line is how flexible it is, especially when you are working around those areas. I always felt that those plastic lines were a problem just waiting to happen. I should have a couple of pics up later and I will post a link.

Cheers

Hey Bernie,

I think they look great and it has to feel good to know if a vaccume leak comes up you know where it isn't. I was actually thinking about replacing all of my lines and I think the silicone lines make a lot of sense. Where did you get them and how many different sizes did you have to get? What did was the total cost of replacement?

Bravo Bernie!
Yeah where did you get the lines. That's a project that I need to do at some point.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies and feedback.

John,
I agree it is a bit of overkill, but I had a bunch of braided rubber hose lying around and I thought it might make good vacuum lines, but if I did not already have it, it would be too $$.

Bernie,
What a great looking setup. I think I have seen the future for my vacuum lines. The silicone sure seems like the way to go. Thanks for the photos too.

Thom,
AN fittings are those hose ends that you see mostly on braided hose. Usually on competition cars. The blue and red anodized ones. I don't know why they are called AN. Probably someone on here does.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday

Thanx for the kudos guys,
I was actually given the silicone tubing by a friend so I will have to investigate the original source and cost involved. This tubing will accommodate all your vacuum lines. It expands easily to fit over any fitting. I had to use a couple of the original elbows for tight bends. I didn't want to take the chance of the hose kinking. I will post source for the tubing later.

Cheers
