Question Puzzle Parts

Can anybody identify the connector in the top image and where it might connect?

And thanks to a PO who, rather than disassemble the windshield washer hoses and electrical connections you see in the lower pix, they simply cut these wires and hoses while removing the hood.

Any technique for repair and fishing the repair stuff through the chase in the rear of the hood? Note also that when the plastic fitting is placed into the bottom of the hood recess that it pushes up the spray nozzles. Got any ideas in that as well? Shouldn't there be a gasket at the bottom of the nozzle?

Many thanks.

Gordon,
Just a WAG here since you didn't say where the connector is but could it be for the 'hood open' light?

As far as fishing the new hoses, a piece of coathanger may be long enough, if not any fairly rigid wire like fence wire or an electricians fish tape ought to work.

Not sure if the '86.5 had this but weren't later cars equipped w a heater for the nozzle's? The connector could be that as well if true.

I know the design of the nozzles was different on my '82 from the '91GT when I took the 'torched' hood of it. Maybe you've got a mix of parts..I seem to recall a seal under the nozzle as well. If you don't have the PET5 so you can look it up, let me know and I'll extract a pic of the assembly.

Gordon,

I'm in the middle of the windshield washer job. I decided to replace the 4 check valves and both washer nozzles. The nozzles on my '87 have a rubber gasket which, by the way, is included with a new nozzle. The nozzle clicks into place snugly so I'm surprised yours are popping out. Maybe the clip on the nozzle is broken. If you want to know the part number, it's stamped on the side. Incidentally, my PET5 lists a different part number for the '86.

I don't think you'll have any problem fishing the hoses through the hood. A coat hanger and/or string should do the trick.

I recommend replacing the check valves before you put it all back together. They're only a few bucks each and commonly stick either open or closed. Some people have reduced the number of check valves to two by changing the hose configuration. Search this board if you're interested.

Sorry, I can't help with the mystery connector.

I think your (?) the bottom part to your
alarm, you are missing the top part that hits
the hood. ME TOO.

Gordon,
As Jim said that is most likely the connection for the hood open plunger. On the drivers side of the engine bay you should find a small bracket connected to the back of where the cross member meets the fender. It goes in the bottom of there and a plunger switch plugs imto it. Chances are the temp sensor on top of back of intake is bad and that is why he took the plunger off. If sensor is bad the fans will run until batery is drained unless hood is up. Plunger missing tells fans hood is up.

Question

Regards the (?) on the right upper front fender. ALARM? Good Gaud! This car had an alarm system that we assumed was not Porsche original equipment. The control unit sat under the center console arm rest just ahead of the cassette tray.

We had it removed because it just sat there in its clear little plastic box and blinked at us. Not knowing how it was armed nor what it did we pulled it out along with tons of other 3rd party wiring that had been installed. So the car runs fine.

Do you think that this vehicle came with an alarm system? Did we yank the Porsche unit? If this is the sending unit for the hood shouldn't there be others for the hatch, doors?

Jim: I don't have any details on the washer/heater system. I assume this 86.5 had them as the wires present seem to indicate power to the under hood light as well as additional wiring which must be for the spray nozzle heaters. This is just another area that I need to fix right after I get to the other 20 or so on the list.

This car seems to have a very interesting history which is the topic of another thread.

Just read Andy's reply. This connector is on the passenger side right about hood level midway down the fender. It could be an open hood sensor although I don't understand the principle behind it's function. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
