Unhappy Rebuild brain - No good

Just got the LH-Brain back, carefully installed it in the car, cleaned the battery contacts, reconnected the battery. Turn on ignition AND.....
click click click click
The injectors are clicking.
I didn't even turn the starter over.
Smells like a rip off. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

The shippers Fedex account says Control Systems, but I talked to what seemed to be Full Logic LLC.
<a href="http://www.fulllogic.com/" target="_blank">http://www.fulllogic.com/</a>
Very frustrating to say the least.
Definetely one of the low points in my 928 ownership. I am almost certain this is not going to turn out well.

I am sorry for your current and future frustration. I decided on this:

The clicking you describe is the typical problem
of a LH unit which has failed. If your unit did
not click when the key was in the "run" position,
you received someone else's bad LH unit. It's also
possible that your problem was not the LH unit.

Be careful about who you send your unit to. There
are a lot of questionable people that make claims
about rebuilding the LH units. The LH unit is the
most difficult fuel injection unit to repair
because of the special part required.

You need to search (via google or others) and ask
questions and not send your unit to the lo-ball
guy. Ask to have your unit tested before paying
for a rebuilt unit. Good rebuilders should provide
this service.

Good luck

My unit was clicking when I send it out to the rebuild shop. But has still the exact same symptoms after the supposed rebuild. I was already concerned about the tech's initial statement that something on the 5v reference module was bad and when he finally shipped it back (he promised one day service and ended up being over a week)he indicated my alternator was faulty.
I am not an electrician, but the alternator does not come into play simply turning on the ignition. (click click click..)
What a misery.
I have another contact in Germany, so I guess I just pi##ed away $330 bucks and wil be shipping the unit out again.
Is anyone willing to test the unit if I get it repaired again?

To make sure it is the brain, why not try to test this one in someones car?

The only sure way is to test the ecu in someone elses car. Mine exhibited the same injector clicking symptoms with the spare ecu I always kept in the glove box, so for awhile I refused to believe it was the ecu. After combing through the electrical system for days with a meter, scope, wiring diagrams and LH test procedure I finally tried the ecu and my spare in someone elses car. Sure enough, they were BOTH bad. I sent one to Partwerks after marking all the IC's so I could tell which ones they replaced. But they sent back a different unit than the one I sent them. It has worked fine for over a year now. Cost was $495 with one year warranty. I believe they usually have them in stock for immediate exchange. I would still like to know how my spare ecu went bad just sitting in the glove box??

Why would anyone send their LH unit out of the
country to get repaired? Doesn't anyone in the
U.S. properly repair these units???

Is everyone on this board asleep? Some people
TRY and provide help, but some/many just don't
listen and waste money.

Good luck

Sab:

Their website says "Lifetime Warranty"...get them to do the job right and have them pay for all your shipping expenses

Normy:

The '85-'86 LH units are different from the S4 units.

I had my '87 rebuild by Partwerks of Chicago and it works fine now (a year later). It's about $500 for the exchange/rebuild service and 7-10 day turn-around time.

My 88 has no power to the fuel pump relay. The PO has a jumper from the fuel pump relay coil (good power)and spliced the line into the grn/red fuel pump hot side. The pump will always run when the key is on, not very safe but I can drive it. I plan on trying to check out the LH IC 7402 and transistor. I can get these parts fairly easy. Does anyone have a schematic of the LH?

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Sterling, no I did not try to start it, it is enough for me to hear the injectors clicking with the ignition on. I know it won't start. The battery is fully charged and ready to crank. Beleive me if you hear the sound of the injectors clicking with out the engine running, you know it ain't right.
I just got off the phone with Felix at Gulf Performance, he is a real "guru" when it comes to 982's.
He stated that he has over 20 bad units in his shop and he has not seen anyone successfully rebuild the LH-brain. He said that Bosch does not sell the part that goes bad.
He also said that he has not seen a brain go bad when he got it from Porsche by reinstalling it in the car. Obviously assuming that the car didn't have any problems before.
Now I am convinced that the guy I send my unit to didn't rebuild it correctly.
I called them 10 times so far, but noone picks up the phone anymore. I assume they have caller ID and are dodging my calls, knowing what is coming...
I am not sure what to do next, try the German rebuilder or bite the bullet and buy a $1500 Porsche unit. I don't want to go used, because it's only a matter of time until I am back to this.
regards,
Sab.
