Is the fuel line from the tank outlet to the fuel pump inlet supposed to be a molded hose? Mine is deteriorated badly and feels like mush, looks like crap! I think someone had posted a tip about putting a stainless steel spring inside of their hose to keep it from collapsing in. I could see that if the replacement isn't molded. Anyway, while I'm replacing the pump, may as well replace everything.
Suggestions on where to get a deal on a new pump?
So far the best price I've found is $183.00 for the thing , which includes free shipping. They also have Beru plug wires for $17?.00
Where did you get yours? Jim

I just re-ckd and they're $182.00 a set at "Auto Parts Wholesale.com" In my post I thought they were one-hundred and seventy something dollars a set. They also have a Bosch set for $152 I believe. So far I haven't seen any cheaper.

$162
http://www.importedcarparts.com/
How about half of that out of a yard, if you aren't afraid of used...

If that hose is trashed, the other two soft hoses in the fuel delivery system are probably in the same condition.
One of them is located between the fuel pressure accumulator and the steel line that runs to the engine (located in the forward right rear wheel well), and the other is located where that steel line enters the engine compartment.
These hoses have high-pressure fittings and can be rebuilt at any hydraulic hose shop, using the existing fittings, at a fraction of the new OEM price.
I just did mine last month.

Thanks guys,
I like the route you went with the hose rebuilds Randy, I will follow suit. I read the string about the fellow who even had the shop upgrade him to stainless sleeved hose on his new ones.
$162 sounds great for the fuel pump. I saw used for $100 somewhere but it would have to be more of a savings than $62 for me to go that route.
I still have too many other repairs to make!

Just installed a fuel pump in my wife's '99 Suburban today - list price on the "fuel module" was $512. Dealer-only item. A standard failure item every 70 - 100k.
Pulling a forty-gallon tank was interesting!

Love the size and pulling ability of my dads 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban, just hate American auto makers lack of customer loyalty with their poor quality.
Next the sending unit for the gas guage will go, and you'll be dropping that tank again! I hate to be a "naysayer" but reality has made a believer out of me.

The hose is molded but a cloth covered 12MM lenght may work without crimping closed.
Concerning the pump I bought a new 6.5 bar Pierburg for my 931 at www.944racing.com for $130. The Partsbin listed the Bosch at $187. The Pierburg is working great and came with all the fittings including a new check valve. I understand that Pierburg makes the pumps for the 928 also.
