Supercharger installations
Thanks for the Albrex link. It has been hard to find any info at all for my Albrex charger. Wish I had found it earlier. That picture of the 32v engine is the exact set up on my car.
Would be glad to answer any questions. I do not know anything about the Gruber kit, but am familiar with the Albrex charger setup now. I have disassembled the entire front of my motor (see post above) and found a few interesting things.
Cheers.
No worries, I was pleased to find the link myself, because my mechanic mentioned an albrex charged s4 here, (which makes it easier for subsequent conversions to be type approved by the state mechanics <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
I'd never heard of them and found nothing because I understood 'albrechts' - trying to be too smart...
I'd like to know what other load parts on the engine/transmission have become noticeably stressed with time on your lovely vehicle. It's probably one of the most 'experienced' blown-shark? It looks like 'solid' kit, is it? Have you dynoed it?
And of course, as you also own a 87 s4, is the blower worth it?
Cheers

Keep in mind, I bought the car as is, Koenig built motor ~10 yrs ago with the Albrex setup, I dont know if it is the same thing you can buy today. But the picture of that web site looked darn close.
Other stress points I've found on the engine (besides the crank bolt) is the water pump. The 'entire' charger assembly hangs on the front of the water pump, on the three long bolts that normally hold the spark plug wire 'holder'. These threads on the old water pump were starting to break apart.
The charger bracket is made from 12-15mm plate steel, welded together, that peice alone weighs 6 lbs. With everything together (charger, bracket, adapter plate), it all weighs about 26 lbs. Kind of scary when you think about it. But as long as the w.p. and crank bolt are kept 'new', there shouldnt be a problem.
Have not dynoed it yet, but plan to do so.
"is the blower worth it? " well, thats a subjective question. Depends on what you want out of the car. Personally, I love the supercharged engine, its an absolute rush to drive
but thats my opinion. I also didnt have to go through the process of installing and sorting the setup...just the problems when its older. You must keep the engine in top shape mechanically,(t-belt, etc, etc) because you are stressing it harder, but it does work extremely well.As far from that, there are other things that could go wrong, but havent had any of it. Except you'll need rear tires more often!
Sorry, but I do not have any specs on this charger. Once I get the motor running again, I'll at least see how much boost its making (new boost guage).
If you guys find anything out there, let me know.
