Post 81 cuts out at 5500rpm.....

And then will not shift.

This isa 3spd to a 4spd swap car, and I am currently working through some issues I wanted to throw out here:

This cutout actually is a constant thing at 5500rpm, and it keeps the trans from shifting to the next gear. Any ideas?
Fuel?

Speedometer: Where is the pickup? NO-worky after trans swap...

(!) light constantly flashes, but I was hoping it was the grounded 02 sensor. Maybe not.

I have replaced the ignition computer with a permatune.

Thanks

Bad rotor/cap? Bad ignition coil? Plugged fuel filter?

The speedo pickup is on the back of the final drive, above and to the right of the fill plug. Is is plugged in? Is the vacuum line connected?

The (!) flashes for:

My oxy sensor is grounded and no flash.

I just recently removed the central warning brain. It was actually optional equipment.
Without it, and properly jumpered, just the idiot lights come on. (Volume 5, 90-32, for the connections)
No more canceling the damn (!).
I am currently working on the jumpers to remove the rear light brain and bracket over the fuse panel.
Unfortunately you can't just unplug it (no lights).
No more STOP LIGHT.

Hey PK,

The cut out really feels like an actual rev limiter kicking in. My mechanic feels it is ignition related, and pretty much all the problems thus far have been same.

The permatune is a part that this individual had laying around as before we was even a mechanic, he purchased an 83 euro, and had some issues checked by a shop in Chicago. Through those trials and tribulations, he found this unit which is a plug in electronic ignition computer, where ours is an old school one. I think he said he would just give it to me for whatever they charge now minus some bucks.

The permatune directions actually say to ground terminal 15on the coil, and thats what I just did to see if it changed anything. Well, it seemed to smooth out the car a bit, but that bucking at 5500 is still there.

The fuel filter has been taken off and emptied, and I will get one on monday new.

One of my ideas was that the fuel pressure reg is not working properly, but I will need a gauage to check that IN the car...

The (!) light onlyt flashes, as I said, above like 1500 rpm. And upon warming up, it never does at all. I think it could be brake pressure, as the master could be leaking. The pressure sender unit that I replaced, I think, is wired backwards, as the pressure is not always at 5.

SOme more archive searches are in order I think.

Maybe the pickup in the distributor?

Unplug the brake sensor, I reckon you know the feeling when your brake pedal starts heading for the floor is bad <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> .

I can't tell if the Perma-Tune has a rev limiter... I think it's an add on.

okay, the oil pressure sender works now, and the speedometer is hooked up correctly.

The 5500 or 5800 rpm cut out is still there, and happens there no matter what gear I am in. This never happened before I changed the transmission and ignition box.

Anyone with perma-tune experience?
