4x4 928?

hi all
i live in the middle of nowhere, for those of you that know the south west of england, i live on the edge of bodmin moor.
i have twice now managed to get my S2 stuck in the lovely mud/cow **** combination that the local cattle leave behind when then are herded up and down my lane.
i also have a badger set about 50 meters down the lane, and they chuck their bedding out after it has rained hard (most days - it seems!) and cover the lane in wet grass and mud.
mud and cow **** smell 'interesting' on a hot exhaust...........NOT.
has anyone ever attempt a 4 wheel drive conversion on a 928? aka 911 4x4 ? yes i know the engine is **** about face in a 911.

Unless you have very deep pockets, lots of time and patience and access to a highly skilled machine shop you are not going to be able to achieve something like this.
I have seen a 928 converted into a pickup truck but unless you mount a 928 body onto one of those monster truck chassis a 4X4 928 is going to be tough,

PS: Maybe you could mount the 928 body onto a Land Rover or Range Rover chassis and use the 928 motor up front.

it was a bit tougue in cheek, can't really see a 928 jacked up on a 4x4 chassis.
it would be nice to try and intergrate a modern audi quattro set up, discrete 4x4.
audi manage to use a V8 and a quattro set up.....food for thought!

i think a less costly option would be to chuck the rear wheels and devise some kind of track system like a snow cat. look out saddam, the 928's are coming! come to think of it, you might be able to install a ball turret gunner position in the back. you might have trouble at the MoT inspection though.

Regarding the Audi Quattros, they have an easier time of it because the cars start out as front drivers. I don't know if Audi offers a V8 front driver, but it would be feasible for them to do so. The larger Audis (A4/A6/A8) use a longitudinally mounted engine, so it would seem that adding a driveshaft to the rear wheels would be straightforward.
The smaller Audis (A3/TT) are based on the same VW corporate platform as the Golf/Jetta/etc., along with various SEATs, Skodas, and so on. While they offer "Quattro", I don't believe that it has much in common with the system used on the larger models. Still, adding a rear drive shaft to a FWD car is easy, and lots of manufacturers are now doing it.
That being said, thank goodness the 928 isn't derived from a FWD chassis! I do worry a bit about the Cayenne, and if we ever see a FWD only Touareg, we'll know the truth...
Regarding better traction, what about a set of tires on the back with a better off-road pattern? Some of the SUV tires have decent grip but aren't too obnoxious looking, and they're relatively quiet. Of course this might compromise the handling and braking on good surfaces a bit. But if you don't mind, you could do the redneck thing and have some giant "mudders" on the back. This works well on 2WD pickups, and I've seen a few that can keep up with most 4WDs.
