Thumbs up New owner of 83 928s

Hello fellow 928 owners.I've been taking care of my new baby with its own garage and a fairly healthy work area (if needed). Ive done some cooling system work, the initial oil, filter ,airfilter, coolant temp sensor (still shows hot may be wrong one ..checking on that)A few minor things need to be addressed...A hesitation or flutter upon acceleration (any gear, any speed about 3000rpm - 5000 or so)tried the fuel cleaners with no luck, also a wheel shimy ... wheels were balanced, going to repack the bearings next and see if that helps. No dash lights are present- swith does nothing, fuses are all good. O ther than those minor things I am a proud owner of a very good engineered car. I enjoy all the info , and i'll be postin soon -Allbz

Cool

Allbznss-

I just cured a miss problem on my '85 Euro S2 5 speed. It turned out that it was nothing more than a bad coil wire....pull yours off and inspect/clean them first! My symptom was a miss on one or two cylinders when I started the car after being away for a few weeks. Eventually it would go away after about 40 miles, but it started doing it all the time.

I have another miss- but this is a bad wire at the timing and reference sensor and involves the whole ignition shutting down for a split second...

Hope it helps!

Normy!

I had and 84 928s before and I have one right now and my other one had the front end shimmy and I was able to correct it by replacing both tie rods, not just the ends, the ends were fine but I think it was the inner connetion with teh steering rack. anyways maybe you should pull the steering boot back and check for play, for both tie rods I thinki is around 100 dollars or so from 928 international . if I can help in anyway let me know

Albznss,

Tonight's just completed project for me was to replace the front warped rotors and attempt to eliminate my quite nasty 50MPH vibration.

I replaced the rotors. I noticed that the wheel bearings had slight play in them so I tightened them slightly. There is a procedure for tightening which you can find be doing a search of the archives. I also replaced the drilled-out wheel locks with stock lug nuts. The wheels had been balanced with the dead locks on them, but I did not like the look.

When I finished all of that, I drove the car and was pleased to find the 50mph vibration is gone. The car is now smooth to 90 and then there is a slight wheel balance vibration. Good enough for me.

Good luck
Greg
