SharkTuner Rentals - What's your interest level?

Can we look at this again?
Please please please anyone "John" want to rent one?
Option 2:
My proposal if a few of us pitched in purchased one then we rent it.
Since everyone is worried about damage why not just have any renter pay for the full amount with PayPal, when returned in "good" condition refund the money less rental fees.
Anyone

Ditto for up in the New England area. I'd be happy to be the primary owner or to contribute to someone else being the primary owner or even a total group ownership.

Since this thread started, the SharkTuner Mk2 has been introduced which has met the $950 price target mentioned. But only for the 87>> cars.
For your 85/86 car, you need the Mk 1 ST which is around 1950 USD.

I have a complete mobile setup for the 87+ cars including an LH & EZK with PEMs along with a WBO2 that you can plug into your cigarette lighter, and while I could conceivably rent it out, there's is just way too much invested to make it worthwhile, I think. I would have to charge $400/month and get a full deposit ($2k) and I really doubt many would be willing to pay that.
Besides, I never know when I'm going to want to use it.

i would totally be interested in renting one....
i am sol as there are very few other shark owners close by, and none that i know of that have a sharktuner...
I have been looking at a chip, as i would love to increase the low end throttle as that is where most of my driving is done (so far)...

I'm so glad that this whole rental idea has kind of died down. I think that John Speake was being very kind, in this thread. He's got to have a whole bunch of hours invested into developing this hardware, with a planned return. Certainly, rental units hurt his potential returns.
Jim Corenman (Genius computer scientist), Rob Edwards ("Rock star" status in the world of medicine...think Eric Clapton of the medical world...clearly a genius), and Dan Hebert (Quiet. Deceptively brilliant) figured out that they could actually tune a car, in real time, over the internet, while the car was going down the road with a Sharktuner, a laptop, and a phone. All the driver needed to do is drive. They could do this while the car was almost anywhere on the planet...or at least anywhere where there was internet and phone service.
The downside? This would hurt sales for Sharktuners thus hurt John Speake's return on his investment in the time he spent developing the Shartuner.
And if you have Corenman, Edwards, and Hebert on the phone tuning your 928, it would cost about $2,000 dollars a minute, for their time.

I don't agree with this logic. John has, in the past, supported the idea of joint ST ownership. I think it would sell more units rather than fewer. Either he's just being a nice guy, or he thinks the same. (Actually, most likely both are true)

I suppose, but I think that rentals would lead to purchases as well. It's all about getting units in the hands of users so that they can see the value of the product. You could argue that people would rent to tune and then wouldn't need one anymore. However, if this was true, I would expect to see a bunch of used STs for sale, and that is not what has happened. Instead owners are holding on to them.

Rental??
I just drive to Tim Murphy's house, punch in the code for his garage door and take it
Rachel doesn't even flinch anymore when she comes home to find me having a beer in the garage and Tim still at work.
