Default Should these cables have any slack in them?

Transmission in in the "P" position - is any adjustment needed?

From the top :

1) Throttle cable
2) Kick down cable to auto 'box
3) Throttle cable
4) Cruise control cable

Throttle cable should be only slack enough to allow the idle switch to reliably click when throttle quadrant is opening and closing.

Kick down cable often stretch, and need tightening. This can make a big improvement in kick down response. I tightened mine progressively until the box will kick down from 4th to 3rd at 75mph when the throttle is wide open but not as far as actuating the kickdown switch.
