Default Which car cover should I buy?

Hi everyone,

I just bought my '86 928S (Red) a month ago and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's posts about this wonderful car. Especially the post about "Did you know..." Wow. That is some arcane stuff!

A quick newbie question. I am storing the car in Central California (mild weather) at a friend's-- he will be driving it once or twice a week to keep the car happy. I want to buy a car cover for the times it is not being driven. No garage unfortunately.

What do you all recommend in terms of car covers?

Thanks to you all in advance,

Scott

I got mine from 928 International and it's the all-weather version. Or, more precisely, the most expensive one. It fits great and stores easily in it's own bag. If you get access to a garage, I would go with a softer, more breathable dustcover type. G

I am using the ones from autozone. They are fairly cheap and do the job. What part of central valley are you Scott?

joejoe,

I am actually from Connecticut, live in New York City, but am leaving the car in San Luis Obispo where I work frequently.

Thank you George and joejoe for your quick replies. This board is amazing, considering the 928 hasn't been made in over 10 years. Totally cool.

I've got a NOAH cover from Covercraft. It was about 155 bucks through WebCovers.com.

Fit is good, but longevity is not very impressive. I'm in northern CA and the cover is less than 3 years old & falling to pieces. It is, however, warrantied for 4 years.

Just got a "Return Authorization" from WebCovers. Return is at my expense, but according to "Julie" they usually just replace it with a new one (no new warranty though) - we'll see....

By the way, covers are useless in the rain (what do you do with the sopping wet cover you've just taken off your car?) Regardless of what they claim the covers are minimally "water resistant." If it's going to rain, I've learned to pull the cover off the car before it gets wet.

James

If they did keep all the water out they would surely foster mildew and other growth in long term storage applications. G

Evolution 3, Noah or any of those newer pleated styles I prefer.
The heavier the material, the better it resists blowing off in the wind and will also offer some protection against bumps.

+2 on the Noah cover.

Seems to be one of the better all-around materials for a car cover. Longevity as James mentioned is questionable, but the warranty typically covers that. My Noah cover is a Wolf custom cover. AZ heat and stretching over the rear wing seemed to do the first one in after about 2 years, but got a free replacement. Had the replacement for about 5 years, but it's starting to show the same issues as the first one, but I don't use it as often since my car is garaged most of the time. Use really is going to determine how long a cover is going to last.

Would recommend getting a "custom" cover with mirror pockets designed to fit the correct year 928. It fits much better and is less apt to buffet around in the wind.

Costco does have some car covers that look decent and are only about $40, but they are generic sizes, don't have mirror pockets and might not fit the car well enough if your car and cover will be exposed to a lot of wind.

George,

I ordered the 928 International car cover and they just told me they are out of stock. Should I go with Noah or should I wait for 928 International to get more covers?
