Post powdercoating rims?

I have the phone dial wheels (with the 5 oval holes) which I use as a spare set for the winter tires. It’s covered with pieces of sidewalk and corroded bits, as a token of appreciation by the PO. So I want to have em painted. I have the possibility to have em powdercoated. This comes in every colour, but I like the gray/almost chromy finish. Can you guys tell me what material these rims are made from and if they can bare higher (?) temperatures? Or if you know if they even can be powdercoated?

(Powdercoating is applying a coating on a heated surface, when the object is put under current, so the powder gets drawn to it, at least that is what I got from it.)

I'm not really sure if the powdercoating is much stronger. The procedure suggests so anyway. I've seen powdercoated surfaces completely corroded from the basematerial. But I think the procedure is improved much since than. The prelimenary treatment probably is very important. If things work out OK I'll do my "summerrims" (slot discs) as well. They look pretty OK now, but there are ships coming of of the edges of the bolt-holes. They look sparypainted with a clear coat. A collegue will have his rims powdercoated in a couple of weeks. I'm curious about the result.

A local 928 owner had a set of the flat wheels powder coated recently. They look great.

Hello all,

I just had to "mother hen" a little and point out something about powder coating wheels. It's not a good idea to powder coat wheels because it hides cracks in the wheels. Of course, paint has that potential but it's far worse with powder coating.

Abdul,
Do you mean the powder coating would hide any cracks to come in future? By a collision or something? A collision bad enough to crack the rim would leave a big dent also I guess. Did you have any unfortunate experiences with that?

About how much are we talking about for powder coating for all 4 wheels. I have some wheels that has curb outs and I was thinking of powder coating.

Hi,

This article (http://www.victorylane.com/Jul98_AllAboutWheels.html) will best explain it. It's written by Bill Jongbloed, as in Jongbloed wheels.
