Post Quick poll on wheel style

Greetings,

I would like to get feedback on preferences about wheels from the group. The PO had installed chrome C2 turbo wheels . . . <a href="http://www.wheelenhancement.com/C2TurboC.htm" target="_blank">http://www.wheelenhancement.com/C2TurboC.htm</a>

I discovered that they are out of round and in need of replacement. I am considering the following wheel styles . . .

<a href="http://www.wheelenhancement.com/9961702.htm" target="_blank">http://www.wheelenhancement.com/9961702.htm</a>

<a href="http://www.wheelenhancement.com/99317.htm" target="_blank">http://www.wheelenhancement.com/99317.htm</a>

I would like to stay with the 17" size to reuse my fairly new tires.

thank you for your opinions and thanks to wheel enhancements for the photos.

Assuming the offsets are correct for a 928, the second set looks more like a 928 OEM wheel.

However, doesn't it really come down to what YOU like? You may as well have asked which type of partner would be best for you. Isn't that YOUR call to make? YMMV.

I don't think you want to put 7 inch wheels on the front but I do really like the 10 spoke wheel.

I bet your current chrome wheels look good.

I still have not found any that look better than my existing cup2.

Just be aware that 993 or 996 wheels do NOT have the proper offset for a 928. I think the 993 cup wheel listed was a replica, those are a little heavier and not as strong as factory wheels.

For about $2500 you can get a set of wheels from any of the big three. There are several styles to choose from. For that money you get proper offsets, and usually light, strong, forged wheels. With proper offsets I am running 255 front and 275 rear width tires.

These are my BW Motorsports wheels from 928 Specialists <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/bwwheel.jpg" alt=" - " />

I like the 10 spokers. They would look good on my
old bugger. I notice Wheelenhancement says they will fit a 928. Does that mean that the offsets will be correct? What i mean to ask is did you ask the folks at Wheel Enhancement if the offsets are correct.

18" ATP Rivas look good too. Just ask Tony and Chris.

Wheel Enhancement are Pro's when it comes to Porsche wheels...that's all they do.

I went down there and bought my C2's from them and they did me right.

They should have already asked you what car they are going on and the year too.

They know what they are doing!

I actually like the ones you have on it right now, are ALL of them bad, or do you just want a change? Since your GTS is a '93 it should still
have the RDK installed.....do you want to keep it or not, or are the original wheels already gone? In my opinion most aftermarket wheels just don't "look" right on a 928 and neither do most of the newer Porsche styles. If I had a GTS the wheels of my choice would be a set of 993 Cups, chromed. One of the best looking wheels ever to be made by anyone.

Dennis K, I am not positive because they are not stamped with an offset but, the fronts are about 65-68mm and the rears are about 55mm I think. Newer 911 offset wheels DO fit on a 928. The fronts are not the correct offset though. You are limited to a 225 section front tire. Nobody, that I am aware of, offers an actual Porsche factory wheel, or replica in the correct offset. I would think however that there must be some out there as the GTS cars used cup style wheels. Anybody know the story on that?

James,

Everyone has their favorite style and finish. I have 3 piece turbo twists and think they fit well with the style of the vehicle. Personally, I believe the classic cup one and turbo twists look the best - some of the newer wheels are a bit too trendy and may fall out of style sooner than later.

TireRack has an application allowing you to visualize the car with a variety of wheels, and 928 Specialists have actual photos of most of their wheels on customer's cars. They will probably give you the best deal.

As I recall, 928 International has a great deal on replica cup one wheels - $795 for the set.

As to offesets, Brent is right - no one makes an off the shelf wheel with the correct offset for the front. I have done a lot of research on wheels, and currently have several sets in my garage! You either have to go with modular wheel$ or fudge it. I run 225's on wheels with a 52mm offset without problem.

If you search the archives, you will find countless wheel discussions. In fact, that's how I introduced myself to this board.
