Default OEM Wheel Paint

I don't know if this interests anyone, but we've got a customer service representative of WurthUSA.com sitting in my living room with us this evening. Ok, he's the son of my next-door-neighbor friendly neighborhood police officer [now detective! - woot woot!], Karen, but he is a csr at Wurth for a living.

Anyway, Jason tells us that his company is bringing back, after what has apparently been a longish absence, the silver lacquer wheel paint that is stock on most German made automobiles, including our beloved sharks. He says it will be available on September 3, 2007.

(Legal Disclaimer) We have no personal affiliation with the company, other than through my husband's and my long-time personal friendship with this kid, nor do we benefit from passing this information along, blah blah bah. (/legal disclaimer)

Leslie,

Your timing is perfect! I just came in from power washing my new (to me) phone dials and I am getting ready to refurb them. First my searches turned up Wurth paints! Then they turned up that it wasn't available . Thanks for the news.

Mike, are you serious? You were searching tonight -- practically as I was posting? I think I'm scared now.

You're welcome!

Leslie--

Ask him if I can buy a case of the silver and a case of the clear from him. I'd just as soon send the business to someone we know.

Thanks!

Jay has agreed to take calls from anyone who's interested in Dr. Bob's idea. PM me for his cell phone number if you want to reach him. Otherwise, just go to wurthusa.com after 9/3/07.

I've used Wurth's existing silver lacquer and clear for touch ups. It seems to match Porsche wheels like the 2002 996 wheels on my car.

Ah, I see the problem:

"Currently unavailable"
http://www.paragon-products.com/prod...rth_silver.htm

"Out of stock"
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/wus-892181.html

"Back ordered"
http://www.parts4vws.com/catalog/pro...mber=WU0892181

"Discontinued"
http://www.premiumautocare.com/wurth...l-lacquer.html

and this:
"In the past, we offered Wurth Silver Lacquer Wheel Paint but Wurth initiated a nation-wide recall of their paint due to paint clogging in the spray head." [I never had that problem, although all spray paints are subject to it.]

Which is it? Annodized or painted for the dish style?

I don't know about that. We have paint on our wheels. It looks just like anodizing, quite frankly. In fact, Kevin didn't realize it was paint until some damage appeared on one of the wheels and he noticed that it was shinier under the paint. On his car, Kevin ground it all off and polished the underlying aluminum instead. (see pic below, taken at a recent dyno run. see how you can see the tool boxes reflected? )

Leslie: That sure doesn't look like factory finish. The anodized wheels were a duller grey or bronze. That looks polished, which is commonly done to wheels whose finish is in bad shape. The original owner of my 89 had the original wheels chromed (now in storage). Only chromed or polished would they reflect anything.
