Question Under hood cover? was there one? Pic inside

Hi all,
Another question...
Under the hood there is a compartment towards the back... Was there ever a cover here or was it always open?
I outlined the compartment in red.
If there is a cover available where can i get one for a RHD 82 928S?
Sorry about the picture quality!

Thanks,

Yes, there is supposed to be a plastic cover there. Last time I spoke with DEVEK, I believe they sold them for about $70 or so. The rubber seal that holds it in place is a separate item. At the least, you should replace the rubber seal to prevent engine heat from drifting up from the back of your hood (thanks for the tip, Greggg).

I should add that my cover was trashed because it wasn't firmly attached on the side opposite of the rubber seal, so the cover hung low and was progressively cracked and crushed by the mechanism for my windshield wiper. YMMV.

The early models had a plastic piece that covered just the left half of that opening. The later years use a full length cover that can be retrofitted to the earlier models.

the picture never came up for me, but I think the problem is on my end. NTL, I have same damaged cover. The remaining portion is made from something about the thickness and strength of Mobil 1 oil container (qt). Not one of Porsche's finer moments. Is the Devek piece more substantial?? I'll fabricate something myself before I pay $70 for the same quality item. Does anyone have personal experience with this?

Cool

Would the AC efficiency be compromised by the absence of this cover, or the migration of engine heat into the space? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I'm in the process of molding, by hand, a piece of sheet metal to see if I can get it to fit. The metal came from Home Depot in the "air duct" materials aisle. I have no idea if I'll ever be able to get it formed correctly, but the process of shaping the end that attached to the rubber seal hasn't been too difficult. Correctly fitting it to the car may be another story if the metal is too thick to fit on the mounting rail together with the seal. It would probably be much easier with the right tools.

Mine is one of the full coverage ones, obviously put on by one of the PO's. I dont think the factory would have done the surgery to the wiper motor mechanism area. (the circular cutout)
