Exclamation He's Baaaack

Can't be sure, of course, but there is new listing for manuals on ebay ebay item from a "new" seller (gulf200pilot) from Dallas that looks like a dead-ringer for listings from one of our favorite dead beats.

Bid with caution!

If any of you Dallas guys knows anything different, please post.

I can’t believe even the dumbest of dumb people would try something like that again. I believe the wheels of justice are still in motion concerning his last episode. I read somewhere that if an EBAY seller’s integrity is in question that you can approach EBAY with this concern. Who knows, this guy could be legit but with “private auction - bidders' identities protected” language, I would be cautious.

Remember his last auction we were able to contact the high bidder and inform him of Shackelford’s shady dealings with us.

Hmmmm…. I think I would proceed lightly until the seller’s identity is confirmed.

If this is Mark Shackelford, we should bid his manuals high then not pay him. Kind of like he screwed four of us. But of course, I'm just thinking out loud. Let us know if this is the guy.

On eBay, when you see a seller with:
- "sunglasses", meaning "new user ID"
- "zero" feedback
- "private auction - bidders' identities protected"
this ALMOST invariably means one thing.... WATCH YOUR BUTT !!!
The eBay people first began offering the "private auction" option for people selling/buying HIGH DOLLAR items (real estate, high-end collectibles, etc.) to minimize unsolicited email hassles for both parties. When you see a relatively low dollar item being listed using the "private auction" option (like 928 manuals retailing new at under $400), it *IS* because the seller DOES NOT WANT the bidders contacted.... or should I really say "alerted".
I think Tim is right on the money here. This just smacks of a savvy eBay user with a problem past who has re-registered (sunglasses, zero feedback) to attempt to escape a haunting previous eBay life!
Thanks to 4MIDLIF for bringing this to the attention of the group.

Tim,
A better way would be to contact either Porsche AG or PCNA. Let's just say that there is nothing stopping a member of their legal department from registering with eBay, placing a winning bid on the "questionable" item, and pursuing the transaction through until they have received the (possibly counterfeit) item. I don't think I need to describe further what Porsche's subsequent action would be at that point when they had the hard evidence in their possession....

And nobody risked their eBay feedback to put a possible crook out of business (at least for a while).

I sent the seller a question regarding the originality of the set of manuals. I'll post the reply when and if I get one. BTW, I'm not holding my breath.

This is Shackleford. See "his other items" web page
Notice the name, address and phone number on the invoice when you click on the second supersize picture. The invoice date is Aug 15, 2002 so this could be his current address if E-bay or law enforcement is interested.

MisterP,

You get my vote for the “New user” of the year award! Congrats on a great catch. Now, what do we do with this information?

Options:

Sign up as several factious Ebay names and bid on all his items, scaring other Ebay bidders away saving their *** and then not pay him, leaving him hang like us or…

Contact EBAY concerning the fraud perpetrator they are harboring and suggest legal action and/or bad press (I can handle this one as very important November news ratings are coming up and I can provide all the bad press they can handle on a national level) if they don’t pull and/or red flag Mark Shackleford ability from any future EBAY auctions. And, red flag all items he’s already listed for sale on EBAY preventing any future chance of selling his items.

What ya think?

If I'm not mistaken this clown can be brought up on mail fraud charges by those who paid for but didn't recieve goods in return. If anyone has filed charges with the Feds, state of Texas or local authorities in Dallas they should follow up with this information before contacting E-bay. Could E-bay be held accountable for letting this guy come back under another identity? If I figured out who he is why couldn't they! I'm not familiar with his original ad but if it's the same they should have a security measure in place to bring it to someone's attention at E-bay for review.

I used e-bay chat to report this person.
Here's the conversation for all its worth.

Your request for eBay Live Help is being sent now. Based on our current volume, the estimated wait to reach an eBay Customer Support representative is 1 minute(s) and 27 seconds. Thank you for your patience. For your convenience, once your chat has ended you will have the opportunity to receive a transcript of your conversation via email.

All eBay Customer Support representatives are currently helping others. An operator will be with you shortly. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Erika'

Erika: Hello. How may I assist you?

Me: I believe user gulf200pilot may have sold but not shipped auto manuals in the past. One product he is selling shows the name Mark Shackleford on an invoice. Please look into this as many people have lost money to this person.

Erika: OK, let me check that for you

Erika: What gives you the impression that he has done this?

Me: Several people looking for these manuals say they have paid for but not received these manuals. They said the persons name is Shackelford and have not been able to contact him. Ebay has been notified.

Erika: I don't see any record of past transactions for this User ID - do you think he used a different User ID?

Me: If you give me a minute I'll see if I can find his original ebay name.

Erika: ok

Me: try electro-depot

Erika: ok

Erika: As you say that Trust and Safety has already been notified, I'm sure they have started looking into this

Me: Will the police be contacted?

Erika: not by us, I don't believe, but you are welcome to contact them

Me: It doesn't seem like we're all that safe when someone can come back and no one at ebay checks them out. Scary!

Erika: Our investigators have a way of linking people and accounts together, so they will be able to take action on this if necessary

me: I hope so. Too many people are lossing money and not enough is being done to protect us unless we police your auction ourselves.

Erika: We do appreciate people letting us know about these types of things

me: With your permission I'd like to post our conversation on a website where we discuss e-bay fraud.

Erika: That's perfectly fine

me: Okay.

Thumbs down

E-bay AGAIN shows no protection for the buyer. All they care about are the auction fees they collect from sellers. I have used e-bay several times, and the one time I had a problem I got answers similar to this.

How do you protect yourself? Use U.S. Postal Money Orders so you can claim fraud through them?
At this point I am not to confident in the fact that situations like this occur in addition too the fact e-bay now owns Pay Pal.

It's too bad because e-bay is like a world wide Flea-Market and at times can be resourceful. You just never know though if a deal is going to bunk and you are left stuck with no recourse of action.

Bad business on e-bays part.

Update on Shackeldump:

First off, our friendly copyboy sold on Rennlist, so it can be assumed he is aware of anything said here, although it doesn't look like it judging from his actions, i.e., pretty stupid or just bold or desparate?? In case there was any question, I have confirmation that Gulf200 and electro-depot are the same. One thing you can do to mess w/his operation is bid and retract which gives you the opportunity to post a reason why you are retracing and that advertises to the innocent who are smart enough to look at the bidder even on a private auction, and we know the reasons are numerous, like seller doesn't answer direct question about idenity, or originality of manuals, or how many vols. or why no picture this time around. I have reached the point with ebay, that I don't need them, I have RENNLIST for my needs. So I could do the high bid/ refuse thing, but I am pursing other options. Be creative.
