Hmmm....
Checked the link above, went to the "For Sale" section of the classifieds at:
http://www.usedsuperchargers.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi
.... only to find there is not a single ad posted!
The site does have links to various companies manufacturing superchargers however. See:

TJ,
I am dreaming with you here.

web page

This is a link to a diagram of the Thunderbird supercharger system. Looks to me like a roots type blower but upside down. My guess is that it would fit on a bracket. In other words,it dosen't have to sit ontop of the engine.

I read that it produces 11-12 psi. Which dosen't mean that much to me because I know little about SCs. One source reports they should be good for 100k miles. They have a self contained lubrication system. The 94-94 modles seem to be the best.

There are tons of them available at
www.car-part.com. I saw one within 70 miles of me for $350 (out in Miraloma, CA). I think I will go look at it soon for dimensions.

We are almost done with our Eaton Supercharged bolt-on kits for the 32V 928s. Pics and more info to follow as we finish up the tuning process.

If Miraloma is that close, you must be in the Socal 928 area - are you on our list?

11-12 seems like more than enough, I'm under the impression that most sc'd cars have 6-8 psi.

I'm definitely not the guy to pioneer this - one of the more mechanically inclined types are going to have to take the lead if there is going to be a sub $1000 system. If it's someone in the area I'll be happy to lend some elbow grease and the benefits of any contacts I've got with machinists and other necessary outside help.

TJ,
Yes I visit the SOCAL site. I haven't done a gathering yet. I am in Redondo Beach. There is a light gold colored S car on Palos Verdes Blvd near my house. Would this be you?

I went out there and bought that Supercharger today! There were 5 of them just sitting there. The total cost was $377 with tax for the SC, Blow off valve a throtle body and some tubing. It is an Eaton M90 blower. All the T Bird SC use this blower. Eaton makes SCs for Mercedes (Kompressor), Jaguar, Ford, and GM. Their site only lists 4 models with 2 generations of each so the Kompressor must be the M90 or the newer MP 90. Huntley Racing uses Eaton blowers in their kits for the 944. Here is the link Eaton's siteEaton This is a link to the site of their only distributor in the US, which I found more useful.Magnuson Products
Magnuson lists the M90 as designed for 3.0 to 5.7 liter engines. It is 1.5 liters of displacement and has an inlet flow of 540 CFM at 12000 RPM with 5 psi, max speed of 14000 RPM. It works in any orientation. air comes in the back and out the top (or side, or bottom depending on orientation).
This flow seems less than the Vortech V1 A trim which flows 720 CFM. The V1 S trim, provided in most kits, flows much more air than this even. Experts chime in.
The T Birds use this blower to make 215 HP and 312 torque from a 3.8 liter engine from the factory. On this site(seelink below)there is a 12 second T Bird SC. So there must be some potential in these blowers for us. Even 20 to 30 RWHP gain for under $1000 is a major gain for these cars. Finding these sort of gains will proably increase the value of all our cars by making them even more fun.
I was able to find a spot for the M90 over the right valve cover and close the hood. It is very tight though and my motor mounts are probably not that fresh. I would probably have to have Dent Wizard give me some sort of buldge here for clearence once the engine starts moving around. The bracket will probably be the hardest part.
I believe this blower could be fitted very easily if someone did not mind modifying their hood quite a bit. I don,t really want to do that though.
According to Eaton or Magnuson these roots type blowers give more gains at lower RPMs than do the centrifugal (sp?) type blowers.

This probably won't be hapening too quickly. Let me know if you want to come by and see it.

TJ,
It looks like I paid too much. 2 sold on Ebay today for $200 and $225. That's not much more than those bilge fans.

Self explanitory...I've got a few questions. First one is most important, does the hood shut?

ehhhhhhhhh i don't think i can answer that question I've seen some hoods on 928s that have a cowl extension on them. But they don't look too pretty i'll tell ya that from the looks of it, its about 4 inches taller than the S4 intake manifold. I wonder if there is a way to make the engine sit a little lower on the 928. Other than that I would say the setup would be most perfect!

I'm a bit further north than you - so not my beast you've been seeing. What year shark do you have? I imagine that some years have considerably more room than others in there - my 86 is flat all the way across and pretty close to the hood.

You'll need to make it to one of the events some day, you'll get a kick out of all the cars (and owners) and there are some genuine mechanical gurus who may be able to help with the project.

If you're really going to try to get that M90 in there, let us know, I'm sure any number of us would be interested in spending a couple of days helping you experiment, even guys like me who are really only good for handing tools to you.

TJ,
I have an 87. I had an 86.5 so I know it will definately not fit in the same place on your car.
I will make one of the events soon.
I don't see myself getting the M90 going for another few months at least. I have only had this car for about 6 months and still have a few small issues to work on. I can definately use all the help I can get. I will post something on SOCAL and invite all local help.

I wish I was out there. I am going to travel the same road as this one this winter I hope. I know I can come up with some ingenious ideas.. Let me know if I can help some way.

Dozman,
Any information on others that have completed installation of a roots type blower on a 32 valve enginge with keeping the stock intake and MAF sensor in place will help. As I get more into this I will start a thread to serve as a guide or warning to others.
