Has anyone installed a Murph kit on an 86 5-Speed in real life
?
I know the options Twin Screw, Nos and Turbo but Murph seems to have the most kits out there. Since no intercooler is avaliable what can I expect in real H.P. and Torque. I have a chip, X-pipe and 24 Lb ford Inj and the car is almost rebuilt to new. The motor and 5-speed are fine and want to keep it that way so anyone done this ?????????????? I'm getting the bug to do something since I'm done getting this up to snuff.

Yes, there is one Murf 928 85/86 car running around. As far as I know, the owner of this car is not a Rennlist member. The kit was also sold over seas, cannot remember what country.
As for an intercooler, the IC designed for my car should work with the 85/86 cars. Tim has a prototype IC for these engines, has yet to test it (busy making the stage 3 S4 kit).
Since this first kit was over seas, it was not a good candidate to test out the IC. I know Tim is eager to get the ball rolling on the 85/86 cars. He needs a test subject for the stage 2 intercooled kit.
So drive on up to Green Bay for vacation this fall.

Mark, Give Tim Murfey a call and discuss it with him. He's a really nice guy and seems like a straight up guy. I would trust what he says.
Good luck

Trying to get an affirmative on the banning of MR is that true? So has anyone done an 86 besides the over seas guy? How about an 87 or later on a stage one how was the outcome! Please fill free to chime in anytime.

I had a long time ago bought a stage one test kit from Tim. Never got it fully installed and ended up selling it. I even at one point had an intercooler just like Hackers' for it that Tim designed and sent for Bell Intercoolers to make. In a fit of weakness I caved into the wifes' demands to sell the "prototype". When I ordered it from Tim it was my intention to compare the reults from that with the twinscrew I had gotten from Andy Keel which produce very favorable results, until that car burned up...
I still think that for a 5sp the vortech is the way to go, and the twinscrew complements the auto in the same way. I failed in my quest to get those results acomplished for the '85-86.5 sub-community, for which I'm sorry, because I think that those years have way more potential then they are given credit for.
Yes Mark was kicked over a disagreement with regards to his sponsorship.

As far as I know he isn't kicked off of Rennlist anymore. He worked out his differences with John D. and was allowed back as a member. I don't think he is a sponsor anymore. He has his own forum that can be reached through his website, but its like a ghost town over there. He was posting on Pelican up until about a month and a half ago but I heard that he's been really busy lately and hasn't had time to post anywhere.
Mark, if you have questions for him you should give him a call. If you don't have his number, let me know. I think I may have it in an old email.

The 315's in the rear probably help a little too.

I have been in touch with Mark letting him know I'm done "is that the correct phrase",
with the car. Since its running so good I thought way not fix it again and see what I can break at the same time. I am really bending to the Murf kit but the lack of 86's out there concerns me. What is the differences between the newer years and the S/C application. Is it the Lh and the tuning, seems Inj timing and A/F need to be addressed although I maybe wrong. My concern is adding something that was not made to be added with out mods to the LH.

tampa,
Up until a few months ago, every Murph kit was installed with a stock LH with stock timing. This includes the customer from down under he recently delivered. Even the higher boosted stage 2 cars (like the 928 Gretch owns, one of Murphs first customers) is running the stock computer.
Fuel is added by a Vortec FMU to deliver the necessary fuel while under boost. It's a very simple setup and is very reliable. It's the same way I'm fueling my 81 with 9 pounds of boost. The FMU method has been tested up to 17psi on Tim's perosnal car with a stock LH computer and stock timing.
Tim's 88 with 17psi does have lower than stock compression.

Thanks for the clarification, what is normal for boost and when is the edge meet? I assume the pully controls the boost thats what I have read, is this true?
Is 6-hours to install correct nothing takes 6-hours on this car. Where do you think the H.P. and Tq will end up?
