Default What kind of plastic are the taillight housings?

I have a vertical slit opening in my right rear taillight that is about 1/8" wide and 1" tall- looks like someone stabbed it, although it probably just shrank and cracked after 17 years of heat cycling. It's located in the backup light section, so the plastic is clear. None of the vendors have any used taillights right now, and rather than shell out $225-250 for a new one, I'd like to fix this one. (It's not really an issue except when I wash the car, and that's pretty infrequent too...)

Anyhoo, I came across this Plastifix kit in another thread somewhere, one can get it in red, clear, etc. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? For ~$20 it's probably worth a shot. Or perhaps there are other/better vendors for plastic repair?

You can also get the same thing at most auto parts stores in your area for a lot cheaper and no S&H- heard that they work pretty well.

Hi Rob
I have an extra right tail light with a hole it the red section, but a good backup section. I don't know if these can be taken apart or not, but if you would like to try, its yours. Probably headed for the dumpster if not.
