6 Year old drives GTS - video game - FYI
FYI,
I found that the "Need for Speed" Porsche video game has an optional 1992 GTS that can race the same model or lots of other P-Cars. The kids have lots of fun with it anybody else here using it? Apperently it can be setup to race against other players over a network or Internet

Great game, had many hours of fun playing with my friends online, though I haven't picked it off the shelf in some time. Lots of oversteer available, made it challenging to drive some of the early 911 Turbos. The graphics are a bit dated by today's standards, and there weren't a lot of tracks, but it was the last installment in the NFS series that felt anything like driving a real car.

I've haven't tried it.
But in the few seconds of free time I got this year, I attempted to fling a screaming baby-blue 1986 Ruf BTR around the 'Ring. Man am I glad that Gran Turismo 4 does not have crash damage, I ate a lot of guardrail.

Not a gamer, so help me out here? Is "Need for Speed" a new game or an old one? Also what platform(s) is it used in? X-box? 360? Atari 2600?
Son has an old X-box. And as long as I don't have to buy a new system I wouldn't mind getting that for him.

Despite the lack of Porsches, Gran Turismo is an amazingly fun game that teaches a lot about race driving and modifying cars for performance. You have to obtain licenses to enter different types of races, so must learn how to correctly accelerate, brake and take various types of corners.
You also are given a budget to spend on a used car, then can modify it or buy new cars when you win races and make money. You end-up having to replace suspension, transmissions, engines, exhaust, brakes, etc, to get your car to go faster.
I think it's a great way to teach kids about driving and cars without actually putting them behind the wheel or forcing them to hang out in the garage with you.

Actually I just checked & my son has "Need For Speed - CARBON". I don't think that game has the 928 in it or would've thought he'd of told me. Are we talking about another version?

The greatest thing I learned from playing GT is the importance of Pure Concentration.
I learned this in GT 1, back in 1998(?).
I had entered my hopped-up twin-turbo RX-7 into an pro-level endurance race at the long Grand Valley track and was having terrible tire-wear problems with my ham-fisted choppy driving method. I was getting my *** kicked by several full-race Skylines. At some point my tires were hot and greasy again and I had just bludgeoned my way into 3rd place, and then instead of pitting for tires and losing my hard-won position I just kept driving.
Then I forgot to watch my lap times.
I forgot to watch my competitor's positions on the little radar map.
I forgot to watch everything peripheral.
I just drove. Acclerate, look for braking point, brake, downshift, turn to late apex, drift a little, accelerate, upshift, repeat as all one motion.
After awhile, I don't know how long, the tires suddenly went goodbye so I really had to pit and as I slowed down to hit the pitlane I looked at my lap times. I had beaten my previous best by 3 FULL SECONDS, not once but for the last few laps shown. On worn-out tires too.
When I got back out I did the same thing. I steeled myself to not look at the lap times, and after a while I reeled in the second place Skyline and took him. Then I caught up to the leader and breezed past him on hot greasy tires. I won.
My prize for winning was a fat stack of cash - and one of those Skylines. They had significantly more horsepower than my RX-7.

Wish I had a Mark Anderson 928 in GT4...

"Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed" is the full name if I remember correctly. Came out around 2000 or so. To use the 928 GTS you need to download it as a separate file from the 'net.
The game runs under Win98, but I have had it working under Win2K and WinXP by using the Compatibility Tab for the shortcut. I think it may have required a software patch as well, now that I think about it. It has been a few years since I played it.

I have the 298 GTS option as a zip file - pm for a copy
I'm running it on a pc (Windows XP) and use a projector to blow up the screen to a large size 50-60 inches. The CDs show up on e-Bay for a few bucks from time to time see >> http://product.ebay.com/Need-for-Spe...453QQsoprZ7704 << I than searched the net and downloaded the patch file which has the 928 GTS on it. (PM me if you want a zip file of the patch)
I'll make some screen shot and upload when I refigure the file size reduction process again.
