This thread puts a nice, wide smile on my face. :-)
My GT has a mission - to break my previous speed record. It's going to be a target of opportunity, though - when the right traffic and road conditions present themselves, the right foot will go down.
If I do it in Manhattan, a buddy of mine will take me and the missus out for dinner.

A 951 had a top speed rated at 161; absent a lot of modifications, I doubt a stock 951 (944 turbo) today could do 160 and if it did, I'd be sure to (1) be wearing a helmet; (2) have an approved roll cage in car; (3) wear a fire suit; (4) and have a paid-up life insurance policy in the safe deposit box!!

Mine stock one could and did so more than a couple of times. A good 951 just like a good 928 can do 150mph all day. It's been well documented.

Sorry, but i doubt a new 951 could do 160 - remember, that would be a stock, unmodified (engine) 951. Porsche rated the car at 161 max - and that was new and we all know Porsche tended (and tends) to be very optimistic....160 in the 928 pictured still had plenty of rpms to go more - just ran out of highway for safety...I think the 951 was and is a great car - just not a great, 160+ car (without help) - also, the 928 can not just do 160, but it can do it all day - face it, the 928 was made for it, the 951 was not....but I can understand a 951 owner's 928 envy...

Whatever. It's well documented that a 88-89 Turbo S will run straight to 170mph.
Quote from 944 article in Excellence September 07
....... If you have enough road, The Turbo will have you knocking on the door of 160mph and happily keep you there all day...
End quote.
They were not talking about a turbo s either.
