Hello all,
I am a new member to Rennlist and I just wanted to introduce my project car and myself. My 1978 928 has been sitting in my Aunts Las Vegas driveway for almost two years without being run. It has since been towed
to my home in Southern California. This car is going to need a lot of TLC and I am hoping I can gain valuable knowledge from other member’s experiences. I have already cleaned out the gas tank, replaced the
fuel pumps, fuel filter, air cleaner and plugs. The engine runs well but the 5 speed transmission needs a new drive shaft. It makes grinding noses when in gear and clunks when I shift gears. My goal is to work on this car myself. Can a beginner mechanic without the shop manuals replace or work on the tranny? Is it even worth it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. You all have some gorgeous 928’s on this site. Someday, I hope my car will be in the same league.

Thanks for your time,
Michael C. Spahr

Welcome to the club. Anything is possible but it's best if you had the manuals, but at the very least people on the board will be able to assist in quite a few areas.

Welcome aboard Michael!!!!! Car looks pretty good from the pic. Definitely get the manuals. It's a small price to pay if you plan to work on it yourself. This discussion board and the e-mail list are fantastic for help and advice, but it's alot easier if you can learn from the manual, and suppliment that with the list knowledge. Good luck with you project, and let us know how you fare.
