Post Manual Fan versus Electric Fan

84 Euro S - Automatic Transaxle

From my domestic days driving GT Stangs, it was possible to gain HP by removing the manual fan and installing an electric fan.

I thought this method would crossover to my shark. My curiousity is aking if this would be possible even though I already have an electric fan for the a/c condensor.

Will having two electrical fans, running simultaneously, having a negative effect on the electrical system?. Can the system handle this load?.

Just Curious?

Porsche went to dual electric fans on the S4. must have been a reason. there is a tax on your electrical system unless you are moving pretty good.

I just like getting rid of the hardware associated with the belt driven fan.

Thanks for the feedback - Do you or anyone know if the later model 928s pump out more juice (amps) than the S model to compensate for dual electric fans?.

Also, does the s4 run one electric fan constantly?.

Much appreciated -

Not shure about the S4. But on my 84 euro I removed the stock fan and went with a black magic elec. fan. This keep the temp down about 1/3 from where it was ridding.
The logistic broblem is that if you have a Us model car the air pump run off the same belt as the fan. So If you wish to remain smog legal you run into some problems. Namely leaving the stock fan cluch system in so as to retain the smog pump leaves very little room for the elec. fan.

The fans on the S4 are run as needed, and not constantly unless the A/C is on. The fans on the S4 are also variable speed.

Question

Thanks Everyone -

In AZ, cars are required to have smog pumps for emission purposes. My 84 Euro does have a smog pump physically in place but it is un(in)-operable. Even if my car passes emissions, it will fail if the equipment isn't there.

Which leads me back to the fan. This is what I would like to do. Remove the manual fan but retain the clutch and pulley. Without the fan shroud I can install the secondary condensor fan that I have from my parts car. (There is plenty of room) - Two other concerns I have is 1. Wiring the second condensor fan 2. The direction in which the fan spins. Being that the fan was originally in front of the radiator, and I now would like to move the fan behind the radiator it will be pushing rather than pulling.

Should I foget about my second condensor fan and goe with Black Magic?.

Thanks Again
