Being having problem with the auto trans for my 86 since I bought it 2 years ago. Finally, I been told that 1st and 2nd clutch plates are worn out. I have no 1st or 2nd gear, and manage to drive the car starting out in 3rd. (don’t drive much-just around the block)
What would be the most economical/reliability (I know there is no such a word in world of 928!) ways to get the car going again? Rebuild the trans? Buy a used one? Buy a rebuilt one?
I been driving a Import for commute and want the 928 back in hurry.

If you want a rebuild, I am getting a quote from a local mechanic here that sends them out to be rebuilt. I can give you the quote as soon as I get it.

BTW, mine is also an 86. I think that if you perhaps will be selling the car in the future, try to keep the same trans and engine with the car, as it raises fewer questions upon resale if the numbers match the vin.
