Default SKF rear bearing no longer available?

According to local SKF dealer, SKF has stopped making VKBA 955 rear wheel bearing kit and there are only 19 kits left in warehouse in Belgium. There is no info available of possible replacement. Anyone know anything about that? Is SKF only source for correct size bearing?

I checked my two main sources and one is out of stock and the other has about 50.
I have 10 in stock.
Porsche has non in Germany and 10 in Atlanta.
Also used on the 94 to 98 993.
SKF is the only OEM I know of
I might invest in some wheel bearing futures 8>0

Since it fits the 94-98 993 , thousands of expensive valuable cars .....it would be weird for that to just go away...

Hi Jim,
Glad to see you are awake - its used on the 94 to 98 993 acording to my info from Porsche.
I guess there are a lot more 993's than 928's so maybe a new source will surface.
I've got 10 how many you got?
Between us we should be able to keep a few cars going for a while 8>)
Best,
Roger

I don't recall seeing many posts here about these bearings needing replacement. Are you seeing more calls for these and what are they worth?

I thought these were widely used. I believe Kirkham uses them in their Cobras, is that where they're all going? Is it SKF # BAHB636161C ?

If its true its even stranger decision since since 993 doubles the market. There were little under 58000 of them made. Together with 61000 928's thats 240000 possible bearings which need to be changed maybe every 10 or 20 years. Even with 30 years change cycle thats 8000 bearings per year. Counting in destroyed cars and low miles they should still be able to sell maybe thousand bearings each year.

BTW, Kirkham's using those on the front wheels. Why did they choose the 928 specific one? With the popularity of 930 CV joints in projects, are 930 wheel bearings an option for customs?

Regarding this situation, my first impulse was, "Hey, I'd bettter get one on hand". But, this might only seem to complicate the matter. I don't need one, and the potential purchasers are mostly on this listing. If a hoarding related M.O. develops, it will only make obtaining items like this more difficult in the future. Thoughts?

Mike
