Post Brake upgrade from 85

I have read previous topics here and on Nichols site. I was hoping I could get a few of the knowledgeable ones to help me out.

Can someone tell me, when I upgrade my brakes to S4 brakes. What brake components do I need for the front and back, as if I were to purchase them off of a wrecked S4. If, I can afford the mod I will do it. Tring to get away with the least amount of cost.

Right now my shark is going into the shop for a full paint job. Still tring to locate a hood with the 2 vents near the front of the hood.(Willing to do some dyno's with increased air flow, and such.) Then if everything looks good this winter, I am hoping to go with some engine work, and a supercharger.

TIA for any wisdom here for my quest of improved braking.

This link may help. I did the conversion earlier this year. If you have any more questions after reading the post let me know.

Doz,
FWIW
I know for a fact that 928 Parts International lists the S4 to GTS brake upgrade for about $1000.00 - not cheap.
I'm pretty sure they also list the early model to S4 upgrade. Check the online catalog for specifics.
The rest of the big three should also have what you need call em' for price.
You should also be able to get the used parts - serviceable or reconditioned at a cheaper rate.
Wally P., I believe, Ed Ruiz and Jay Wellwood have posted requirements such as 17"+ wheels as replys to other posts' along this line.
Should be under archives.
I can only imagine what S4 or GTS brakes would be like...Pattycakes is an Auto, but when I let off the go pedal and judiciously down shift it feels like braking in a normal car. And when I get on the binders she slows down like a giant hand is pulling her to a stop. This from a stock 82' without ABS - yours has ABS, right? Are you going to keep the ABS active?
Some things to consider: I'm not sure if you can go direct to a GTS set-up from a pre 86.5, but
1. The master cylinder is the same cost for either upgrade.
2.The cost difference in front disc's S4 = $95.00
GTS = $165.00
Rear disc's are about $70.00 each and can be used on either upgrade.
A $140.00 difference for the front pair.
Stock rear's are $60.00 for reference.
3. The Master cylinder should be about $180 and
can be used on the S4 or GTS up grade.
I read a posted argument that stated on, one hand, an upgrade had been made without changing the vacuum booster or master cylinder - you need to research as if true it could save you that $180.00
4. Stainless steel brake line sets go for under $90.00 for any model year...go figure.
I think this is only for the fronts as stock front price is $85.00 for your 85'.
5. Doz, Calipers and Pads is where you take a financial butt whoopin'.
S4 upgrade new $475.00 each, used $200. each.front
S4 rears new $450.00 each, used $200.00 but these are the same on S4 or GTS upgrade.
Enormous variance in pad prices, shop around.
Now this is weird...
The GTS upgrade for the front calipers is $325.00 new. Thats a full $150.00 each cheaper than the S4 upgrade. You can save $300.00 right here.
Gets even stranger...Used GTS calipers are $250.00, a full $50.00 more than used S4 calipers. What gives?
Finally,
Rear ABS sensor, same for S4 or GTS, $110.00 new,
$50.00 used.
Front ABS sensor, same for S4 or GTS, $64.00 new,
$50.00 used.
This is another oddball;
Front ABS up to 86.5 are $250,00 new and $110. 00 used.
Rear ABS up to 86.5 are $225.00 new and $100.00 used.
Jeez looking at these numbers you would be a fool not to upgrade - at least when it came time to refurbish.
I am not sure if the ABS computer has to be upgraded. Could be some bucks there...
But if you do the math, and assuming the GTS brakes are better than S4 brakes the total GTS upgrade doesn't look like its far costwise from the the S4 system.
Have fun

I appreciate the advise Quaz and John.

I definitely have some homework to do before I plunge here. I figure I have 3 repairs and or mods to do, once the shark gets back from the body shop. No time nor will the budget allow before then.

First is my tach, and indicator repair with advise from Steve C., then there door locks inop... (go figure), then the brakes.
