With today's cars that are available with ever increasing stock hp, you have a paradox in your desires. Either modify it to increase hp/lose weight, or quit racing every ricer that revs his engine at a stop light.

When I had my 911 cab for five years, I remember I couldnt be at a stop light without someone rev'ing their engine! I had everything from ricers to pick up trucks to businessmen in their four door sedans! I think I heard it so much that I got that sound in my head associated with a red light. I sometimes would think I'd hear a rev, & then look over & it'd be a granny in a mini van! I usually reacted with most of those ricers by acting like I was going to race off the line, then let right back up after a few car lengths, just to watch them oblivious to me screamin down the road! Saw one then get pulled over once & I know he wondered where the heck did the other guy go! I probably saved him from the 2nd ticket for racing since I'm sure the cop thought he was just speeding!

I know a guy that had a 500hp Eclipse. Wasn't much to look at, but it was a Porsche killer. He also owned a gorgeous 944 turbo too. Without knowing what the other car is stock, much less if its modified, you are rolling the dice if you want to race with a 29 yr old stock 928, but don't want to lose. Me personally, I told a guy once,...Yeah, your ricer may be faster than my 911, but who's gonna have all the heads turnin when they drive by, eh?? I know that either of our 928s only magnify that reality compared to our 911 cab.

Don’t want to spend $5000 on an SC, then learn now to fabricate and build one. Since I’m sure AC is a must in FL, you might want to duplicate one of the front mount SC setups. A basic (non intercooled) front mount Vortech setup can be done for under $2000.

you must have missed HP/torque class!

shifting will be done at max RPM, so that HP is maximized.
why? acceleration=power/(mass x velocity)

at any speed, acceleration will be at its greatest race,at max HP.

For some very minor improvements.. Look at your exhaust, as I will be doing soon with my 79. You may also improve very slightly on knowing when to shift. A dyno run should tell you if your tuned the best..and where your cars torque is maximized... also try some high octane gas..100+....how about some GTS Mirrors

And it has been said that Torque Gets you going and HP keeps you there.

As an owner of an 84S, I have begun to inquire about replacing the stock exhaust/cat. Several people have told me that I might get the car from 234HP to past 260. My dear wife is worried that this replacement will make the car no-longer-legal. But I think Illinois law now allows such cars to go cat-less.

Thus I too am considering a modest HP boost.

said by folks that have failed physics 101(or racing 101)
acceleration is totally dependant on HP. torque is part of HP, as is RPM.
torque means nothing without rpms, HP tells the entire potential story.
Now, HP also determines rear wheel torque, that gets you going and keeps you going

Hey Sparky, he has CIS. That complicates things just a bit.

It was only a lesson for the "one liner catch phrase, non-science propagators"!

if you have a physics degree, or passed high school physics, I aint talkin to you!

Thanks for the authentication!

Go nitrous! Cost/Fun ratio can't be beat. If set up correctly with a progressive controller, you'll get more power with less stress on the engine than a SC. Filling the bottle does get old, but the intitial investment is low. Plus the car stays very drivable when you're off the bottle. Just make sure to do a leak down test first, as you would adding a turbo or SC as well.

My full set up was less than $1000 with twin bottles, Jacobs mastermind progressive controller w/retard, MSD ignition, New plugs, 100-250hp set up (Never above 150hp yet).

The mastermind is perfect for the CIS as it monitors A/F and pulses the fuel independantly from the nitrous to maintain perfect A/F ratios all the way up to where both selenoids are 100%. When My 5L hybrid is done, I plan on going the whole 250hp until I save up for the SC.

Only real issue with nitrous is...the accord may have it too. There's always someone with more time, money and car than you. Get used to it and have some fun.

Oh Crap! Somebody better tell Carl.

Its all been said here already. You are outgunned. Learn to avoid racing newer cars from a standing stop or get used to losing. Nitrous is the most cost effective solution.

I have been waiting for a chance to use this smiley.

I don't even remember if I took physics. So I guess I failed.

I took three years of auto mechanics. I was more interesting.

So Then, now you have a tid-bit of information that makes your catch phrase true with one corrective change.

HP gets you going, and a mechanic keeps you going
