Default Oil Leak Near Oil Pressure Sending Unit (1984 928S)

I have an oil leak which I thought was originally my oil pressure sending unit. After my friend put it up on the rack he thought it was leaking just above the sending unit, i.e. where it was connected to. He thought there must be sometype of seal on the housing itself. Anyone have a similar problem or have any ideas?

The oil pressure sending unit screws into place and a seal washer prevents leaks. Try tightening the sender a bit to see if it stops leaking; otherwise, remove and replace the sealing washer.

I believe the leak appears to be above that if possible?

I had a similar symptom, and the problem turned out tp be a PS hose leak. Are you slowly losing power steering fluid? Is the area under the PS filter/reservoir a little wet and cruddy? The reservoir itself has the filter integrated, and is a 30k maintenance item. (I know you all are up to date on this item...). The return hose between the rack and the reservoir is a known/common leakage point. The hose gets a little crispy with age and doesn't seal real well to the little nipple on the reservoir anymore. The replacement hose is amazingly compliant when compared with the old original hose.

Reservoir was inexpensive, hose was reasonable. Dexron fluid was the cheap part.

any chance the cam housing gasket is leaking?, It could also be an oil line that goes into the pressure sender quadrant or one of the sealing washers that hold the thermo springs , these parts are just above the oil filter

Best is to spray down, clean and then note where the oil coming from. There are many seals on that side of the engine that could be faulty causing an oil leak to appear there.

Jack the car up and spray/clean the area with brake cleaner, then start the car up and see where it's coming from.

I had a leak from the big aluminum gasket which seals the housing directly to the block.
