Default Nice 91GT - Low Miles - GTS Rear End?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...46154445QQrdZ1

Looks very nice and original. Anyone know the history on why the GTS rear end. I suspect a rear end smash but the seller swears its original in every way.

Roger-

Not sure why you're looking at this car. All GT's have manual gearboxes and a clutch!

(It is a nice looking car, but that blue interior... sorry, but I wouldn't be able to take it.)

Low miler claimed GTS rear bumber was option in '91 MY yet never came up option code for it. There isn't any unknown codes in build sticker pic either. My bet is bumper was changed for what ever reason.

To my mind it would seem strange to put the GTS rear end on for purely cosmetic reasons but to then leave the older style flag mirrors unchanged.

But if it's straight underneath and everything fits properly (i.e 'like new') then I'd think the reason doesn't really matter that much...

I thought that the S4 bumper covers were NLA so that would indicate the car was hit from behind and since only a GTS cover was avail that was used....

Shhhhhhhhhhhh..... don't let my wife hear that, she simply loves her white/blue '91 S4!!!

Course... if you promise not to tell her, it wouldn't have been my first choice either!!

It does "grow" on you though. Being a darker blue than some of the '80s medium blue interiors helps modernize it a bit perhaps.

That GT is still a very nice looking shark! Will be interesting to see what it ends up at. If the six bidders on ebay are all legit, thats alot of activity with five days left on the auction, so it seems that others must be ok with the color combo too.

Ironically, Low Miler bought and sold this particular GT a few years back. IIRC he sold it for a tick under $30K. My guess is anything under $25k is a good deal for this one.

I know I’d like to have it if my situation was different.

Think about it, Erkka: Why would a car manufacturer offer a major differentiating feature of a future model as an option in the year before?

To me, that's nothing but BS... This car might have some damage on the rear; it doesn't have to be great damage, but enough to justify a bumper replacement. Or the owner wanted it to look like a GTS...

Yeah... like a fungus!

Actually, the maroon interior is the worst IMHO. I almost bought a car with maroon interior, but I just couldn't do it. Glad I didn't, cause I love my all classic gray interior.

There is a difference between mechanical upgrades that add more value, and a piece that majorly changes the appearance of the car. I owned a GT that was built later than this one, and it did not have a GTS bumper cover. I've never heard about any non-GTS that came from the factory that way. It's not in my brochures and option lists, either. So I say it again: What lowmiler aledgedly said in this regard is pure BS - possibly made-up to distract from the fact that this car had the cover replaced.

I'm soo with you in that regard. Particularly given that the reflector strip almost always buckles... But then again, there is something to be said for a nice GTS. I love them all, I just don't love each and every feature of each and every version.

May have been a salesman's ploy to sell a stagant 91 928..sitting on the lot in 92.....and the buyer heard of a new model coming to the US in 93...well...we can do that for you...get the look of the new GTS..for a deep discount on a sitting 91....maybe not original..but rather a "dealer installed option" haha..

That is good question and thats exactly why I would like to see option code for it before I would say its even possible. Since there isn't anything special in this GT's option sticker it doesn't even matter if late style bumper was available or not. This GT almost 100% surely didn't get it from factory.

However, body color rear wing was option in '91 and black one in '92-95. Though this is obviously not as dramatic change as totally different design part. Its just that I know few late '91 MY S4 where similar claims have been made without option codes backing it up. So anything is possible but very unlikely until some hard evidence has been brought forward.

This looks like a nice 91GT...but it clearly was in a rear end accident...plain and simple there is no way around it.....an easy way to determine how bad it was is to look for the build sticker in the trunk.....if its gone....then chances are it was pretty bad and the trunk floor was repainted & hence the build sticker is gone too

Build sticker is in the trunk:

It agrees with window sticker that there aren't any special options:
