Default no passenger mirror.

I hear there were early cars without passenger mirrors. Does anyone out there own one? I was just wondering what they looked like.

It was optional in '79 I believe. Kempf has one that came w/o the pass mirror. I noticed he added one recently though.

A bit slow, and painfully expensive at times, but not bad otherwise. so far have done:

Fuel pump replacement, fuel breather hose replacement (dropped the tank), replaced several hoses under the hood, replaced several vacuum lines, upper ball joint kit from 928ms and bearing fix (w help from Bill Ball), hood and hatch hydraulic replacements, new muffler hangers, new battery, ***. & disass. of WUR, pulled and cleaned central electric panel, brain and whatever that is under the dead pedal, ripped out the entire interior, ***. & disass. of pod (need parts now to fix) and some other minor cosmetic fixes.

Thanks for asking.

Default Friday Car

Wow, sounds like you have been busy. I have a 78 that is on the 10 year restore plan. I am going for the simple look. like yours. All I have done so far is a cap/rotor and some fluids. I want to ditch the window tint, new black lug nuts, and clean up the motor real soon.

There is instructions in WSM how to add mirrot mounting point into passenger side door. Very likely many cars which have mirror now got it few years after early cars were made. In few examples I have seen it was fairly easy to say mounting point was installed outside production like. Workmanship wasn't up to factory standards even though nothing abnormal was visible on outside. This can give indication if there should be mirror or not and situation can be corrected for example when car is repainted during restoration.

I believe that the early Club Sports didn't have a pass mirror. I remember seeing a picture of a red CS going over a hill on the n-ring.

Erkka,
What is the WSM? I have a suspision that my passanger mirror was added. It does not fold in the same way the driver side one does. Thanks for the info.

djurek,

The pass mirror on my s4 is also mounted differently than on the driver's side. This is noticeable when the mirrors are folded.

I'm guessing porsche did this to optimize the mirror's position from the driver's point of view.
