Attn: Aussie 928's-anyone in/near Surfers Paradise? I'm heading Down Under..
I've got to go Down Under on business this week. I fly into Melbourne, but I'll end up in Surfers Paradise and will have Friday 7/27 night free prior to flying home at about 11:00 Saturday morning. Just checking in to see if any of our Oz friends may be around? I'mk thinking Cuban cigars and some Aussie beer and/or wine is in order.
Coming out of "retirement" sucks, but I might as well have some fun...
I've put in a join request to the Landsharks forum and I'll post there, but I thought I'd try here too.

Hey Ed, wanna bring a nice 928 with you?
Unfortunately I am on the other side of the country - and believe me Oz is BIG - otherwise I'd love to catch up.
My ulterior motive would be to get a contact that could check on 928s in the US that it might be worth exporting to OZ. I am in the market, but there are so few of the cars here that I am thinking of importing a LHD (legal in Western Australia).
Contact me if there is any chance you might make it into Perth.

You Aussies best watch Ed close. If he has too many drinks he may have trouble figuring out which of the two roads he's seeing to take. Happens here in Idaho all the time and our drinks are not nearly as large as Texan glasses. Texans claim that everything is larger there. Wonder what the rear ends are like? (on their 928s). In another thread, Geno allegedly posted a foto of a 928 rear end that could have qualified as Texas sized.
Have a good trip Ed. I have a relative who drove a Motorcycle across the center of AU. Alice Springs, etc. Couldn't travel at night...too many 'roos.

Absolutely. Eastern states of Oz don't allow LHD to be registered, but here in Western Australia, it's fine (if they are old enough).
Federal govt doesn't allow importation of cars newer than 1988 (I suspect car industry lobbying).
You say Texas is big? The Australian state of Western Australia is over 6 times the size of Texas, with only a fraction of the population.
.. and Oz beer is 5+% so Ed had better watch out. Big glass or not, he might be looking at the underside of the table rather than the roads.

Oops. :-)
I must confess to a quick "eyeball virtual cut and paste", so I'll accept 3.9 times.
Are these convicts by the same definition as the original Oz transportees? As in, "steal bread for your family, get transported to OZ"?
If that's the case we would take 'em in a heartbeat. The newer type of criminal we don't really want, we have enough of those already, and not ALL of them are elected officials.

Steve-
Yes, back then mostly the same profile. The only reason the Poms (sorry Rog) cared that we left was that the American Revolution closed the dumping ground for their prisoners, the rotters were stuck on decommissioned ships until the temporary unrest in the Americas was put to rights, and you know the rest of the story. Not that ANY of my noble ancestors came over as anything but enlightened folk of means....

Which brings up the question.....isn't Texas historically part of Mexico? Should it really have been designated a reservation so casinos could be built all over?

Donald,
Here in Oz it is considered a cachet to have a transported convict ancestor. So much so that people have been known to lie about it.
... but this is all WAY off topic.
Whatever happened to Ed? Can we start a "Where's Ed?" thread?

Hey! Don't dis my mate Wilbur!
I looked for just the right picture for ages (well at least two minutes with Google).
I didn't think that I would need to explain it was was Mr Ed and Wilbur from the TV show. :-)
BTW Where IS Ed?
