Unhappy

Randy,
Thanks, Glad to hear that our stacks are alive and well. Donalds link was precisely what I was looking for.
Donald,
The big city lights and traffic jams of No Trees would really give me the time I need and a thrill to those who have never seen the glory of a working power antenna.
Thomhross,
The aft carpet retainers turned out to be a Door Panel type push pin on both sides. The carpet was also lightly spray glued(3M?) with two strips on either carpet panel to the leather backing. I used a screw driver to locate and remove the pins and a four inch spackling trowel to pry off the carpet without doing any damage.
A new problem has reared its ugly head...
I have a heavy, plastic wrapped,cable/wire with rubber boot from plastic covering to just behind a single female spade connector.
It appears to come from the pod.I didn't have time to do the CD/Radio swap so the console went back together. With, of course this one wire left over. Every thing came back out! No place on the radio for it, no place on the climate control head, ditto for the hand brake/O2 light bar. Looking at Right Rear of radio set up was as follows:
2 separate pin and blade combo, connecters.
These are left and right speaker leads.
Slightly lower: Fuse clip and cover.
Slightly lower: Tiny hard plastic/metal female(blade type), Red with in line fuse. Tiny hard plastic/metal female(blade type), white. Then a heavy red wire with standard female(blade type). Then two heavy brown leads into a single standard female(blade type). No other male blades left anywhere on Blaupunkt for the mystery lead. The Brake light/O2 light bar has four leads hard soldered to it , no empty blades.
The Climate Control Head has three large buses two on one side, one on the other, no spare blades. IDEAS, any one? The ash tray is wired up correctly, light and lighter work! All dash lights work, signals, wipers, automatic crotch scratcher ...
everything works! Has the Zuffenhausen bunch ever been known to leave optional accessory wiring hanging around? Help, help, help.

Donald,
Lighter and ash tray light work.
Gotta mooch a multimeter from work -no one at my house will admit to the disappearance of my last 3 multimeters- .
I left the drivers side carpet panel off so reaching the mystery lead is no problem . I have the lead connecter covered as I was concerned that it might be a hot lead and smoke something if I left it uncovered and swinging at will.
ThanxJohn S. & Pattycakes

Sorry-
I saw that you had mentioned the lighter too late. You shouldn't need a multi-tester for this, just a simple light probe from the cheap shelf at Wal-Mart..If you find your multitesters, ask Zak where my hearing protectors, remote controls, etc. are

Cool

Hi John,

I cannot identify that wire. When I pulled the center console, each plastic connector pair was unique, or color coded. Therefore, they could only be paired together. I never found a connector with a rubber cover. The radio harness had been clipped, and some wires taped off. There were some connections to the cigarette lighter, and maybe the clock that did not have plastic connectors. It seems that I had to make note of wire colors, or connector types to get those right. Someone told me that brown is ground on the Porsche when I had a dim headlight. However, it seems that modern stereos use black and green for grounds. See your installation guide.

Cool

Hi John,

To clarify my earlier post, I spoke with my Dad about short tracking. He said to clip a troubleshooting nonpowered light (can substitute a voltmeter)to the battery's positive terminal, disconnect the negative terminal, ground the test light to the engine or body. If the light comes on, you have a short. Then pull fuses until light goes out to find the culprit circuit. Then troubleshoot that circuit.

There are short electrical troubleshooting guides in Haynes and Chilton manuals.
