Default 928S, 928S4 bumper badges

I feel kinda silly asking this question, but I don't know when will be the next time I'll be up close to the back of one, so here goes:

On pre-1987 928s, are the "928S", "928S4" stickers which can be peeled-off or paint that can be removed easily, or are they etched or somehow affixed permanently?

Thx -T

The type designataion was always peel-off (from the factory). Of course, they have no control over what people do after the car leaves the factory...

They were also a delete option ... But most bumpers have been repainted since it is so easy to get them scratched.

Thanks Nicole & Jim. Glad to hear I have more options in looking for a replacement.

Got this response from someone selling an 86.5 rear bumper cover on eBay:

"928S" has actually been pressed into the mold used to make the bumper cover. The indentations readings "928S" look to be painted silver, so I'm not sure covering would be an easy task without some Bondo and a new paint job.

I checked my 928 brochures and found no pictures with the "928S" stamped into the mold - only the word "PORSCHE". I'd ask the seller to send you a picture of the cover.

3000Teeth:

Our 1984 S came with black lettering tape pressed inside the PORSCHE word, but with bumper surface-mounted 928 lettering tape. Thus there was a combination of molded taping and non-molded.

That looks the way it's supposed to. With the 928S lettering "flat" on the cover. Sometimes, as these decals age, they warp up a bit at the edges - maybe that's why the guy thinks it's stamped-in.

Or it's a one-of-a-kind Porsche Exclusive Strosek Gemballa TechArt bumper cover.

Ooops, I forgot that TechArt wasn't even in business then...
